The Lamb County Leader-News’ annual football contest’s standing are starting to take shape now that we are through five weeks of the contest.
We had a tie for the top spot this week between David Neinast, JR Herrell and Teresa Dabrowski, who all finished with a mark of 17-3 this week.
The tie-breaker for week four was the combined score of the Raiders and Bears, which was 49 points.
David Neinast edged out the competition with a guess of 46 points, to take first place, while JR Herrell finished second with a guess of 45 points and Teresa Dabrowski finished third this week with a guess of 43 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield took down Brownfield on the road, 4221, to stay unbeaten on the season, while Sudan won their homecoming game over Plains, 41- 12, and Olton shutout Vega, 28-0, to win their homecoming game. Springlake- Earth blasted Happy, 54-6, while Follett took down Amherst, 79-50, and Anton won their homecoming game over Dawson, 65-40.
Ballinger edged out Stanton, 21- 17, while Lockney took care of Clarendon, 30-16, and Miami defeated McLean, 8839. Panhandle shutout Wellington, 41-0.
In the college ranks, South Carolina took down Kentucky, 35-13, while Iowa State defeated Arizona, 39-14, and Baylor took down Oklahoma State, 45-27. Minnesota snuck by Rutgers, 31-28, while New Mexico defeated New Mexico State, 38-20.
In the NFL this week, the Steelers took down the Vikings in Dublin, Ireland, 2421, while the Eagles survived a late comeback from the Buccaneers, 31-25, and the Chiefs demolished the Ravens, 37-20. The Falcons took down the Commanders, 34-27, while the Lions took care of the Browns, 34-10.
The rest of the contestant scores for week one are as follows: Those who finished 16-4 this week were Jonathan Magallanes, Martin Duran and Stevy Smith, while those who finished 15-5 were Charlie Smith, Donna Neinast, Johnny Rosemond, Larry Ashley, Mark Grace, Micky Orozco and Terrill Moorhead.
Aaron Moore, Brenda Herrell, Jan Smith, JC Orozco, Lonnie Neinast, Ronnie Martin, Stephanie Dabrowski and William Albus each finished 14-6 this week, while Dewayne Hayes, Ed Dabrowski, John Hernandez and Richard Orozco each finished 13-7, and Juan Garza, Maria Pinon and Sam Castillo each finished 12-8.
Those going 11-9 this week were Alma Castillo, Jimmy Garcia and Robi Elliott, while Moe Castillo rounded out the field going 10-10.
In the overall standings, David Neinast is alone in first place with 76 points, while Duran is in second place with 74 points, and JC Orozco and Martin are tied for third place with 73 points. In fourth place with 71 points are, Stevy Smith, Donna Neinast and Jan Smith, while JR Herrell and Hayes are tied for fifth with 70 points, and Lonnie Neinast is in sixth with 69 points.
Micky Orozco, Brenda Herrell and Richard Orozco are tied for seventh with 68 points, while Magallanes, Ashley and Stephanie Dabrowski are tied for eighth with 66 points, and Rosemond and Garza are tied for ninth with 65 points. Teresa Dabrowski rounds out the top 10 with 64 points.
