The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team won their final pre-district game of the season on Tuesday defeating the Olton Fillies, 3-1.
With the win, the Lady Cats enter district play with an overall mark of 11-12, while the Fillies enter district play with an overall mark of 4-11.
Olton’s Denisse Alvarado delivered a kill that went out of bounds off of the tipped block by Nevaeh Lopez and Cobi Saldana to put the Fillies in front, 1-0. However, Taryn Smith’s next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 1- 1, as Littlefield gained the serve. A tip by Alvarado was hit out of bounds by Bryndle Ray, but on the next play, Barbara Gallegos was called for being on the net for Olton, tying the set, 2-2.
Alvarado delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Kealee Bussey, but London Taylor answered with a tip that Smith couldn’t get to on the diving dig attempt, making the score, 3-3. Tailyn Gomez sent a serve sailing out of bounds and Olton followed it up with a block by Zayda Gonzales for a kill to stretch their lead to, 3-5. A tip by Madison Williams was hit out of bounds by Kaitlyn Avalos to end the rally, but Olton would regain the serve, as Gallegos sent a kill past Faith Balderas to make the score, 4-6.
Littlefield would answer, as Lopez sent a kill past the block attempt of Gonzales, but they couldn’t capitalize, as Ray sent her serve sailing out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 5-7. A save by Balderas was hit over the net by Williams for a kill and Llama Ramirez sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds on the next play, tying the set, 7-7.
Williams served up backto- back aces for Littlefield, before Saldana sent a kill out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 9-8. Alvarado was called for being on the net and on the next play, Saldana sent a kill off of the block attempt by Alvarado, pushing their lead to, 11-8. Lopez followed it up with an ace off Kambri Ruiz, and a hit on the next play by Alvarado went into the net, making the score, 13-8.
Olton’s struggles continued as Alvarado tipped a ball short of the net, forcing the Fillies to take a time out, trailing, 14-8. Out of the break, a dig by Ruiz was hit into the net by Saldana, but Ray answered with a kill on the next play to make the score, 15-9. Kamila Silveira was called for being on the net for Littlefield, but Maggie McNeese answered with a kill off of Smith to push the Lady Cat lead to, 16-10.
Alvarado and Gonzales answered with back-to-back kills off of Balderas, but on the next play, Gallegos was called for being on the net, making the score, 17-12. Gallegos and Smith sent back-to-back hits out of bounds on the sideline for Olton and Gallegos mistimed her jump missing a hit for the Fillies, extending the lead to, 20-12. Smith ended the rally with a kill off of the block attempt by Lopez, but Ruiz was called on the net during the next play, stretching the lead to, 21-13.
Ray tipped the net with a serve for an ace, but Gonzales answered with a tip inside the back line for an Olton kill, trimming the lead to, 21-14. Williams delivered a kill for Littlefield before sending a serve out of bounds on the next play, cutting the lead to, 23-15, and Alvarado delivered a kill off of a free hit by Saldana, making the score, 23-16.
Taylor delivered a kill off of a block attempt by Ramirez, but Taylor’s kill try on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 24-17. McNeese would deliver a kill off of Gallegos on the next play to close out the set, 25-17, putting Littlefield in front, 1-0, in the match.
In set two, Lopez’s opening serve sailed out of bounds for Littlefield, but Kaybree Ramon was called for going under the net on a set for Olton, tying the set, 1-1. Bussey delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Alvarado, but Silveira’s next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 2-2. Bussey sent back-to-back hits out of bounds for the Lady Cats and a dig by Smith floated over the net and went off of McNeese for a kill, pushing the Olton lead to, 2-5.
Bussey sent a hit short of the net, but Mattie Seymore responded with a kill off of a block attempt by Alvarado, making the score, 3-6. A hit by Ramirez fell in for an Olton kill and McNeese sent a hit outside of the foul pole on the next play, stretching Olton’s lead to, 3-8. Gonzales was blocked by McNeese for a kill and Gonzales was called for being on the net, trimming the lead to, 5-8.
Williams sent a kill sailing out of bounds, but Ruiz was called for being on the net during the next play, making the score, 69. Ray sent a serve short of the net for Littlefield, but Saldana sent a kill past the block attempt by Smith to cut the lead to, 710. The Lady Cats couldn’t get a rally going, as Williams sent a serve sailing out of bounds. Littlefield would score on the next play, but the next serve from Taylor sailed out of bounds, making the score, 812.
The teams would go back and forth with Littlefield drawing within two points after a kill, but Gonzales and Smith answered with back-to-back kills for Olton, pushing their lead to, 14-18. Lopez dropped in a tip for a kill off of a long dig from Ruiz and Ray served up an ace off of Gallegos, before sending her next serve out of bounds to make the score, 16-19. Saldana dropped a kill on the sideline, but Ray couldn’t play a ball off the net on the next play, making the score, 17-20.
Gonzales served up ana ce off of Wright, but Smith was called for a double-hit on the next play, trimming the lead to, 18-21. McNeese followed it up with a kill off of Alyssa Rivera, but Lopez’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 1922. Seymore sent a kill sailing out of bounds for Littlefield, but Saldana answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Ramirez, making the score, 20-23.
Seymore followed it up with a kill, forcing Olton to take a time out, and out of the break, Littlefield scored to make it a one-point game, and McNeese followed it up with a block for a kill to tie the game, 23-23. Littlefield would falter, as McNeese sent a hit into the net and a bad set by Silveira was hit short of the net by Ray, giving Olton the set, 23-25, tying the set, 1-1.
Littlefield jumped out to a, 60, lead in set three after a kill from McNeese, but Alvarado answered with a hit that fell in for a kill to end the rally, making the score, 6-1. Saldana delivered a kill in front of Alvarado and Ramirez’s block attempt and Alvarado had a tip land out of bounds, pushing the Lady Cat lead to, 8-1.
Ramirez sent a tip short of the net, and Alvarado sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds, pushing the lead to, 10-1. Silveira had a serve land out of bounds to end the rally and Alvarado followed it up with a tip off of McNeese for a kill. Silveira tried to play a ball off of the net, but it went out of bounds, however the serve on the next play from Avalos landed out of bounds, making the score, 11-4.
Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Gomez sent a serve short of the net, and a hit on the next play by McNeese didn’t make it over the net, forcing a four hits call on Littlefield. Bussey missed the ball on a hit, but Williams tipped the net for a kill to make the score, 12-7. Smith sent a hit into the net for Olton and Lopez delivered a tip off of Ruiz for a kill making the score, 14-7. Bussey delivered a kill off of a block attempt by Smith, but Balderas’ next serve landed out of bounds, giving back to Olton with the score, 15-8.
Lopez dropped a tip off of Ruiz’s block attempt for a kill and she followed it with a kill off of the block attempt by Smith, stretching the lead to, 178. Saldana sent a kill short of the net and Williams sent a kill sailing out of bounds, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Saldana sent a hit into the net for Littlefield and the Lady Cats were called for four hits on the next play, cutting the lead to, 17-12.
Olton would rally back to make it a two-point game, after Ramirez delivered a kill off of Taylor to make the score, 18-16, but Ruiz had a dig land out of bounds and Alvarado sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 20-16. Saldana and Alvarado exchanged kills and Taylor sent a hit into the net, making the score, 21-18. Ruiz sent a serve sailing out of bounds, but Balderas answered with a kill to make the score, 2318. Ramirez dropped in a tip for a kill, but Brittani Wright had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline making the score, 2320.
A save from Taylor made it over the net falling in for a kill, but Gonzales had a kill tipped out of bounds by Gomez and McNeese was called for a double-hit cutting the lead to, 24-22. McNeese would close out the set with a tip in the back corner for a kill, taking the set, 25-22, putting Littlefield up, 21, in the match Olton jumped out to a, 1-3, lead in set four, before Saldana sent a kill past Avalos to gain the serve for Littlefield. Ramirez sent a hit intot he net for Olton, tying the set, 3-3, but Alvarado answered with a kill past Balderas, making the score, 34. Ruiz served up an ace inside the back line and McNeese was called for a carry on the next play, stretching Olton’s lead to, 3-6. Ruiz served up an ace off of Balderas, before sending her next serve out of bounds, making the score, 4-7.
Gomez served up an ace off of Smith, but her next serve landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 5-8. the teams would go back and forth, as Littlefield battled back to tie the set, 17-17, after Gomez tipped the net with a serve for an ace. McNeese sent a kill past the block attempt by Alvarado, but Bussey sent a hit out of bounds on the next play to tie the set, 18-18.
Williams scored a kill off of Allison Rivera and she followed it up with a kill off of Avalos, making the score, 2018. Balderas sent a serve short of the net and Alyssa Rivera served up an ace off of Gomez to tie the set, 20-20. Lopez answered with a kill off of Avalos and she followed it up with a tip over Gonzales for a kill to push their lead to, 22-20.
A few plays later, Allison Rivera sent a hit into the net for Olton and McNeese closed out the match with a kill past Alvardo to give Littlefield the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.
The Fillies opened district play on Friday at home against Ropes. Results were not available at press time. The Lady Cats will open district play on Tuesday at home against Idalou.
First set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
