Lady Cats drop 5-set thriller to Estacado, 2-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped a heart-breaker to the Estacado Lady Matadors in five sets on Tuesday, 2-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 3-6 overall on the year.

In set one, Bryndle Ray’s opening serve sailed out of bounds, but Estacado would give it right back to Littlefield, as London Burrell sent her serve sailing out of bounds as well. Zeniyah Moody dropped in a tip on the sideline for a kill, but Debriyah Britt’s next serve landed out of bounds, keeping the set tied, 2-2.

Moody responded with a kill for the Lady Matadors, but on the next play, Kamyra O’Neal was called for being on the net, making the score, 3-3. Cobi Saldana delivered a kill to regain the lead for the Lady Cats and A’Zaerius Riddle sent a hit into the net to extend the lead to, 5-3. London Taylor delivered a kill off of Burrell and Kami Silveria served up an ace to stretch their lead to, 7-3.

A save by Silveria landed out of bounds on the next play and Estacado followed it up, as Taylor was blocked by Riddle for a kill, cutting the lead to, 7-5. Kealee Bussey was called for being on the net, but Taylor responded for Littlefield with a kill to regain the serve, making the score, 8-6. Riddle’s tip on the sideline landed out of bounds for the Lady Matadors and a kill attempt by Riddle on the next play sailed out of bounds as well, pushing the lead to, 10-6.

A tip by Taylor was hit out of bounds by O’Neal, but Saldana’s next serve sailed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 11-7. Taylor had a kill attempt land out of bounds, before she delivered a kill on the next play in front of the Lady Matadors defender, extending the lead back out to, 12-8. Nevaeh Lopez delivered a tip off of Burrell for a kill, as Estacado took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Mattie Seymore delivered a kill past Adriana Hinojos, but Littlefield would send a hit out of bounds on the next play to make the score, 14-9. The Lady Cats were called for four hits, before the Lady Matadors sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 15-10. Ray served up an ace off of Laterrian Hastings, before sending her next serve short of the net, trimming the lead to, 15-11.

Maggie McNeese was blocked by Addison Thomas for a kill, but the following serve from Burrell landed out of bounds, making the score, 16-12. Thomas dropped in a tip off of Lopez for a kill, as Littlefield took a time out, leading the set, 16-13. Out of the break, Ray dropped in a tip off of O’Neal for a kill, but Estacado would respond, as Thomas delivered a kill in the back corner of the court to cut the lead to, 17-14.

Saldana answered with a kill in front of the block attempt by O’Neal and O’Neal sent a hit into the net on the next play to push the lead to, 19-14. The Lady Cats would score back-to-back points, before Thomas dropped in a tip off of Saldana for a kill to make the score, 21-15. Her next serve fell short of the net and Saldana followed it up with an ace to push the lead back out to, 23-15.

Ray sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds, but Riddle was called for being on the net and Seymore followed it up with a kill off of Riddle to close out set one, 25-16.

The Lady Matadors would bounce back to take set two, 2325, and set three, 23-25, to take a, 1-2, lead in the match.

In set four, Estacado came across the net on a play to give Littlefield the point, 1-0. The Lady Cat’s couldn’t capitalize, as Ray sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 1-1. Thomas touched the net on a tip, but again the Lady Cat’s couldn’t capitalize, as Saldana sent a hit into the net, making the score, 2-2.

Riddle sent a serve short of the net and Lopez followed it up with an ace off of Burrell, pushing their lead to, 4-2. McNeese was blocked by Thomas for a kill, but Taylor responded with a tip that grazed the net before falling in for a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield. Taylor kept it going with a kill off of Hastings, and on the next play, Jada Phea touched the net on a bad set by Burrell, making the score, 7-3.

Saldana sent a kill attempt out of bounds, but she answered with a kill off of Phea, stretching the lead to, 8-4, as the Lady Cats regained the serve. Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Saldana sent her serve sailing out of bounds, but they would bounce back, as Taylor delivered a kill off of Hastings and Madison Williams served up an ace off of Hastings to extend the lead to, 10-5.

Williams’ next serve fell short of the net, but on the next play, a tip by Lopez was hit out of bounds by Britt, pushing the lead to, 11-6. Ray sent a serve sailing out of bounds and Burrell followed it up with a tip off of Williams for a kill to make the score, 11- 8, as Estacado took a time out.

Out of the break, Yasmia Lopez served up an ace off of McNeese and the Lady Cats were called for four hits, making the score, 11-10. Seymore ended the rally with a kill for Littlefield and Saldana followed it up with a kill in front of Lopez to push the lead back out to, 13-10. Thomas delivered a kill in front of the block attempt by Lopez, but the next serve from Riddle fell short of the net, making the score, 14-11.

Lopez served up an ace for Littlefield, but Moody answered with back- to- back kills for Estacado, cutting the lead to, 1513. Taylor answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Moody and Saldana followed it up with a kill of her own to push the lead to 17-13. Burrell and Lopez sent backto- back kills sailing out of bounds for the Lady Matadors and Phea sent a hit short of the net, pushing the lead to, 20-13.

Saldana had a kill attempt land out of bounds on the sideline and Taylor sent a hit into the net, making the score, 20-15, but a save attempt by Estacado landed out of bounds on the sideline, giving the serve back to Littlefield. Taylor delivered a kill to stretch the lead to, 23-15, but Moody delivered a kill off of Taylor to regain the serve for Estacado. The Lady Matadors followed it up with an ace, before Riddle sent a hit into the net, making the score, 24-17.

A hit by Bussey tipped the net, but didn’t make it over and Seymore was blocked by Riddle for a kill to cut the lead to, 24-19. Burrell served up an ace on the sideline, but Lopez would slam the door with a kill off of Hinojos, as Littlefield took the set, 25-20, evening the match, 2-2.

Estacado would go on to take the tie-breaker set five, 1-15, to take the match, 2-3.
