Lfd. City Council holds special meeting August 12

The Littlefield City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday, August 12th, in the City Council Chambers, located at 525 Phelps Ave.

The meeting was called to order at 6 p. m. by Mayor Eric Turpen and the invocation was given by Mayor pro tempore Kenny Rucker, who also led the Pledge of Allegiance.

There was nobody present for the public comment portion of the meeting.

The next item on the agenda was to consider and approve the Submission of Certified Tax Roll.

Council Member Jason Ayala made a motion to approve Certifid Tax Roll and it was seconded by Council Member Buddy Holmes. The motion passed unanimously.

Item six on the agenda was Budget Workshop.

The next order of business was to consider and approve Directives Regarding Budget Preparation.

After the council’s deliberations, Mayor Turpen made a motion to purchase roll-offs and purchase fire hydrants. The motion was seconded by Council Member Holmes. The motion passed unanimously.

In accordance with Texas Government Code Section 551.071 ( Consultation with attorney), the council went into excutive session at 6:05 p.m. The council went into closed session to (deliberate the purchase, sale, lease or value of real property where deliberation in an open meeting would have a detrimental effect on the position of the City in negotiations with a third party.)

The Council reconvened into open session at 6:43 p.m. to act, if necessary, regarding matters discussed in Executive Session.

After executive session, Mayor Turpen addressed that there is a tentative purchase agreement for a building at 2401 S. Hall Avenue, that he would like for the City of Littlefield to acquire said agreement.

The council agreed that the city would like the opportunity to purchase the building and move city hall location. The asking price of the building is $250,000. A motion was made to acquire agreement of the building at 2401 S. Hall Ave. by Mayor pro tempore Rucker and it was seconded by Council Member Holmes. The motion passed with 4 ayes and one abstained.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
