In Loving Memory Of Charles Elwin Hinds Oct. 1, 1929 ~ May 29, 2025

Oct. 1, 1929 ~ May 29, 2025

Charles Elwin Hinds was born October 1, 1929, in Mangum, Oklahoma to Virgil and Elva Hinds and left his earthly home in Littlefield, Texas May 29, 2025. There was a beautiful reunion in Heaven with Ruth, his one true love, as well as his daughter, parents, sister, triplet sisters and brother, two great grandsons and many more! He was a beloved father, PaPa Charlie, brother, uncle, and friend.

Charles grew up on a farm outside Amherst, Texas, and always said he drove a tractor before he could walk! He learned early on the life of hard work, integrity, honesty, good humor and Christian values. He met Ruth as a teenager when her family moved to Amherst and was instantly smitten! After graduation, Charles joined the Army and Ruth went to nursing school. On September 16, 1949, Charles and Ruth got married in a beautiful sunrise wedding. Charles began renting, and then acquiring, farms and worked hard supporting his growing family. He was respected in the farming community for his sharp intellect, honesty and hard work. Ruth once wrote "Over the years we have had a good life. Charles has worked too hard, but has provided very well for his family. The Lord has been good to us." Charles was known for sharing the bounty of his gardens. He would load the back of his pickup with corn and deliver to all his friends and neighbors. He was known as the summertime Santa Claus! He would help anyone in need. He has been pallbearer at many funerals, even the ones he didn't know. When it was customary to sit up with a deceased friend at the funeral home, Charles would always lend his time and respect. Everyone who knew Charles has a story about his sense of humor, generosity, working in the fields, and so many more. He was a faithful Christian who loved his church and church family. He began passing out lifesavers many years ago, and all the church members lovingly refer to him as Candyman. For his 95th birthday he was honored by his church with cake, balloons and many cards. He would later read each one with a smile. He was a humble man who felt he didn't deserve the praise and love he received, which just made him all the more cherished. He loved playing dominoes at the gin with all his buddies. When the pandemic hit, he taught Pat how to play at home. They had many games together that he usually won. He was such a good teacher that Pat actually started winning a few games! In recent years one of his favorite pastimes was to watch Wheel of Fortune with Pat. If she wasn't in the room with him, he would call her and say, "Wheel is on!". So many precious memories of a precious man!

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Pat DeVoe and Charlotte Hinds, granddaughters, Krista Clayton and husband, Jamie, Nicole Rogers and husband, Mike, and Miranda Magdangal and husband, David, great grandchildren Faith, Madison, and Riley Jennings, Kai and Josslyn Scrivner and Jack and Lennon Rogers, Nora Magdangal; and sisters Jo Sands and Marcia Joyce Gleckler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hinds on September 29, 2012; his parents, Virgil and Elva Hinds; a daughter, Cheryl Ann; a brother, Virgil Hinds; fours sisters, Sue Hinds, and triplets who passed before birth; and two great grandchildren, Trevor Jennings, and Ezra Magdangal.
