Jomeryl George Harmon

In Loving Memory Of  Jomeryl George Harmon

June 10, 1930 ~ May 15, 2025

Jomeryl George Harmon, 94, longtime resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025 at home. He was born June 10, 1930 at his parents home near Amherst, to George and Velma (Shannon) Harmon.

Jomeryl was a proud Bulldog Alumni, graduating from Amherst High School with the Class of 1947. He has spent his life working on the family farm, alongside his dad, mother and brother, and that hard work ethic served him well when he enlisted to serve his country as a member of the Unites States Air Force. When Jomeryl shipped off to Basic Training, he was dating Margie Messamore, a Sudan girl. The couple wrote letters back and forth everyday for almost 48 months while he was training. They married June 10, 1953 at her parents home outside of Amherst. He was then sent to serve in Korea for 11 months. He returned home where they settled in Amherst and raised their family. He was very active in the lives of his children, and later his grandchildren. He served his community as a member of the Amherst ISD School Board, the Amherst Band Boosters, the Farmer's Coop Gin Board and as Amherst Methodist Church Trustees Treasurer. Jomeryl loved to fish, and he and Margie enjoyed traveling together, visiting all of the 48 lower states and taking their photo at every State Capitol building. He and Margie were able to spend 63 years and one month together as a family, and they left a legacy of faith based values for generations to come.

He was greeted in Heaven by his wife Margie, who passed in 2016; his brother, Benny Harmon; his parents; and a granddaughter, Lyndsey Miller.

He is survived by a son, Dusty Harmon and wife, Karen of Littlefield; three daughters, Kyla Howell of Littlefield, Jacquelyn Miller and husband, Stanley of Amherst and Holly Enloe and husband, Brad of Littlefield; thirteen grandchildren, Julie (Kris) Bielefeldt, Katie (Jeremy) Evans, Keesha (James) Fullington, Jeremy Harmon, Kristin Price, Sam (John) Cox, Jett Price, Aaron (Rachel) Miller, Brady (Christina) Miller, Jacey (Jay) Moulthrop, Adam (Jacy) Enloe, Rann (China) Enloe and Beau (Nicki) Enloe; twenty-six great grandchildren, Marx, Maddox, Ethan, Avery, Kambree, Kaylee, Kynsley, Kamryn, M'Kambrie, Brycelyn, Mason, Lucille, Micky, Myles, Jordan, Sawyer, Noah, Charlotte, Liam, Alexis, Faithlee, Zeke, Hollis, Farran, Bella and Brent; and numerous extended family members.

Services to celebrate the life of Jomeryl will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Amherst Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst. The family requests that we honor their cotton farming Dad/Pawpaw by wearing jeans/ denim/ cotton to his service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Amherst Methodist Church or the Amherst EMS/Fire Department. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
