The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team run-ruled the Roosevelt Lady Eagles on Saturday, 18-3, to celebrate senior day for their four seniors.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 15-7 overall, 7-4 in district play.
In the top of the first inning, Makynzie Mendoza singled on a ground ball to Bri Aleman at third base to give the Lady Eagles a base runner. Kadence Goley grounded out to Natalia Sanchez at second base for out number one, as Mendoza advanced to second on the play. Mendoza took third on an error by Hannah Lopez, but Cali Saldana got Zobry Bryant to strike out swinging for out number two.
Kat Rodriguez drove an RBIsingle to left field to put the Lady Eagles in front, 1-0 and Maliah Dossey also singled to left field, putting runners on first and second with two outs for the Lady Eagles. Grimes knocked an RBIdouble to right field to push their lead to, 2-0, before Presley Pleasent struck out looking to retire the side.
In the home-half of the first inning, Bryndle Ray was hit by a pitch to lead things off for the Lady Cats and she stole second on a pitch, before Alyssa Torres lined out to Goley in left field for out number one. Aleman drew a walk and Sanchez followed it up with an RBI-single to center field, scoring Ray and putting Aleman on third, trimming the lead to, 2-1.
Sanchez stole second, before Maggie McNeese reached on an error by Kayla Edwards at second base, scoring Aleman to make the score, 2-2, with runners on the corners for Littlefield. Saldana reached on an error by Rodriguez at third base, as Sanchez scored and McNeese advanced to second, making the score, 3-2.
Abby Rodriguez singled to left field to score McNeese and took second on the throw in from the outfield, making the score, 4-2. Myli Hernandez drew a walk to load the bases for Littlefield and Lopez walked to bring in a run, making the score, 5-2. Ray ripped a two-RBI double to left field, as Rodriguez and Hernandez scored pushing the lead to, 7-2. Torres followed it up with a double to center field to score Lopez and Ray, stretching the lead to, 9-2.
Aleman popped up to Rodriguez at third base for out number two, but Sanchez blasted an RBI-double to left field to score Torres and make the score, 10-2. McNeese followed it up with a single to Bryant at shortstop, but Sanchez was called out for runner interference on the next play to end the inning.
The Lady Cat defense made quick work of the Lady Eagles in the top of the second inning, as Edwards grounded out to Rodriguez at shortstop for out number one and Franco grounded out to Aleman at third base for out number two. Saldana got Mendoza to line out to Torres in left field to retire the side.
In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Cat offense cooled off some, as Saldana grounded out to Mendoza in the circle and Rodriguez struck out swinging for out number two. Hernandez reached on an error by Mendoza in the circle and Lopez followed it up with a single to left field, putting runners on first and second for Littlefield.
The runners stole second and third on a pitch, before Ray ripped a two-RBI double to center field, stretching the lead to, 12-2. However, Torres would ground out to Bryant at shortstop to end the inning.
Roosevelt woke up the bats a little bit in the top of the third, as Goley led off with a double to center field and Bryant followed it up with a single to center field putting runners on the corners for the Lady Eagles. Rodriguez reached on an error by Saldana in the circle, as Goley scored to make the score, 123, and Bryant advanced to third leaving runners on the corners.
Saldana would recover in the circle, as she got Dossey and Grimes both lined out to Ray in center field to retire the side.
Aleman drew a lead-off walk in the bottom of the third, but Sanchez struck out swinging for out number one. McNeese drew a walk and the runners advanced on a passed ball, before Saldana lined out to Dossey in center field for out number two. Aleman was able to tag-up and score on the play and McNeese scored on an error by the catcher, Dossey, making the score, 14-3.
Rodriguez drew a walk and Hernandez singled through the right side and took second on the throw in from the outfield, as Rodriguez advanced to third on the play. Rodriguez and Hernandez scored on a passed ball to stretch the lead to, 16-3, before Lopez singled up the middle to give the Lady Cats a runner. Ray singled to center field, putting runners on the corners and Torres singled on a pop up to Bryant at shortstop that fell in, pushing the lead to, 17-3.
Aleman singled on a ground ball to Rodriguez at third base, as Ray scored to walk it off for the Lady Cats, 18-3.
Saldana pitched three innings for the Lady Cats, as she gave up six hits and three runs, two earned, while earning two strikeouts.
The Lady Cats will close out the regular season Thursday at Slaton.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
