The governing body of the City of Littlefield, Texas, met at 6 p.m. on March 25th, at the City Council Chambers, 525 Phelps Avenue, for the purpose of considering all matters and related incidents to the City of Littlefield.
Littlefield Mayor, Eric Turpen called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. and the invocation was given by Mayor Pro Tempore Kenny Rucker. Mayor Turpen led the pledge of allegiance.
Public Comments on All Agenda Items: Resident Kerry Teafatiller addressed a nuisance issue at residence. Resident Veronica Mendoza addressed a claim submission.
There were no new employees to introduce.
The next order of business was to consider and approve the minutes from the February 25, 2025 Regular Meeting.
Council Member Michael Rangel made the motion to approve the minutes and it was seconded more time, staff, and resources to recreational areas.
Another priority is the continued abatement of uninhabitable and dangerous structures. Other adjustments would be Code Enforcement Officers will report directly to City Manager, Animal Control will be moved under the Police Department, and the City Attorney has been added to the organizational chart under the Mayor and City Council.
Council Member Rangel made motion to accept the New Organizational Chart and it was seconded by Council Member Rucker. The motion passed with 4 ayes and 1 absent.
The next order of business was certification of unopposed candidates and no write-in candidates for the May 3, 2025 General Election.
City Secretary Otoniel Gonzalez Certified the that the Candidates Eric Turpen for Mayor, Buddy Holmes for District 3 Council Member, and Kenny Rucker for District 4 Council Member were all unopposed for the May 3, 2025 General Election.
Item 13 on the agenda was the City Council considered and approved a resolution declaring Eric Turpen (Mayor), Buddy Holmes (District 3 Council Member), and Kenny Rucker (District 4 Council Member) elected to office due to being unopposed in the May 3, 2025, General City Election. As a result, the election for these positions was canceled.
Council Member Rucker made motion to approve resolution and it was seconded by Council Member Rangel. The motion passed with 4 ayes and 1 absent.
The City Council Convened into Closed Session in Accordance with Texas Government Code Section 551.071 (Consultation with Attorney) at 6:21 p.m. and they reconvene into open Session to act, if necessary, regarding matters discussed in Executive Session at 6:38 p.m. where not action was taken.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 6:38 p.m.
