In Loving Memory Of Mary Ericsson
Jan. 10, 1947 ~ March 3, 2025
Mary Ericsson, 78, of Sudan, Texas passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025 in Amherst, Texas. She was born on January 10, 1947 in Spur, Texas to Jimmie and Yuba Sparks.
Raised in a small agricultural community, Mary was no stranger to hard work. She carried this value with her for the remainder of her life. In 1965 she graduated from high school in Deport, Texas. She would then spend a year in Dallas, Texas where she attended the Cochran School of Modeling. After finishing, Mary enrolled in college to pursue a degree in nursing. She finished this degree in Paris, Texas at PJC a few years later. Her passion in life was caring for and serving those who could not care for themselves. She would go on to fulfill this purpose, touching the lives of countless patients in her 30+ year nursing career. Also a single mother of two young children, she worked as many jobs as possible to ensure they were always taken care of. She never complained, and still managed to find time for church on Wednesday nights.
Mary's selfless nature never changed. After having grandchildren, absolutely nothing pleased her more than spoiling them. The grandkids always knew when mom and dad said no, Grandma Mary would say yes. A dedicated grandmother, she rarely missed an event for any of her nine grandchildren; much less, an opportunity to brag on them. In addition to spending time with family, she was able to maintain a wide variety of other hobbies. She loved crossword puzzles, playing scrabble or bridge, and working in the garden. With a vibrant smile, and story for every occasion, Mary was one of a kind. Her family misses her dearly, but knows she is rejoicing in heaven now. She will be dearly missed.
Mary is preceded in death by parents Jimmie and Yuba Sparks; a sister, Alta Fangio and husband, Fred.
Those left behind to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Liberty Smith of Lubbock, Texas and Crystal Baker and husband, Tray (Dexter) of Sudan, Texas; a brother, Ernie Sparks and wife, Rita of Paris, Texas; a sister, Kathleen Flach of Golden, Colorado; nine grandchildren: Ira Dexter Baker IV and wife, Ashton of Sudan, Texas, McKayla Baker of Sudan, Texas, Ally Baker of Lubbock, Texas, Ryan Huddleston of Paris, Texas, Journey Baker of Sudan, Texas, Samantha Baker of Sudan, Texas, Jacob Baker of Sudan, Texas, and Derek Baker of Sudan, Texas; and two great grandchildren: Ira Dexter Baker, V, and Wrenley Mae Baker.
