Nettes finish 2-3 at Slaton Softball Tournament

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team competed in the Slaton Tournament this past weekend, where they went 2-3.

In their tournament-opener last Thursday, the Nettes took down Lockney, 12-5.

Danielle Mitchell pitched three innings for the Nettes, giving up seven hits, five walks and five runs, while earning four strikeouts.

At the plate, Haylee Toscano was 3-3 with three hits and three runs, including a double and a triple, while Andrea Williams was 2-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI’s, while also scoring two runs. Mitchell was 1-2 with a walk and a hit, including a double and she had one RBI and scored two runs. Danielle Ramirez was 3-3 with two RBI’s, three hits, including a double and she scored three runs.

Lillianna Sanchez was 2-2 with two hits, a walk and an RBI. She had two doubles and scored one run. Danalei Kelley and Kalissa Harris were also each credited with an RBI.

In game two of their tournament Thursday afternoon, the Nettes fell to Seminole, 14-0.

Kelley pitched 1.2 innings for the Nettes giving up 18 hits, two walks and 14 runs, while earning one strikeout.

Toscano, Williams and Mitchell were all 1-2 at the plate, while Kelley and Erica Herrera were both 1-1.

The Nettes opened play on Friday against the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles, as they fell, 16-4.

Kelley pitched three innings for the Nettes, giving up 11 hits, nine walks, 16 runs, 10 earned, while earning four strikeouts.

At the plate, Sanchez was 2-2 with an RBI, while Williams was also 2-2 with two hits and two runs. Mitchell was 1-2, scoring one run.

In game two on Friday, the Nettes came up short against Denver City, 10-4.

Mitchell pitched three innings for the Nettes giving up six hits, two walks and 10 runs, while earning one strikeout.

Haylee Toscano was 3-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run, while Williams was 1-2 with an RBI, a walk and a hit. Emeri Rios was 101 with a hit and two RBI’s. She also scored one run.

In their final game of the tournament on Saturday, the Nettes took down Hereford, 8-3.

Mitchell pitched three innings, giving up two hits, two walks and three runs.

At the plate, the Nettes earned seven walks as a team, led by Haylee Toscano, who 1-1 at the plate with one hit, two walks and one RBI. She also scored twice. Mitchell was 1-3 with two RBI’s, while Williams, Sanchez and Reyn Limon- Johnson, Kelley and Herrera each drove in a run as well.

The Nettes begin play at the Dimmitt Tournament against Highland Park on Thursday.

First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
