The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team went on the road to take down the Sudan Hornets on Friday, 64-37, to sweep the season series.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 22-4 overall, 6-1 in district play, while the Hornets fall to 9-15 overall, 2-5 in district play.
Olton poured in 20 points in the opening frame to take a 16-point lead into quarter number two, and they held the Hornets to two points in the second quarter to take a, 38-10, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Sudan would bounce back with a 21-point third quarter, trimming the lead to, 53-31, going into the final quarter of play. Olton would outscore Sudan, 11-6, in the final quarter to take the contest, 64-37.
The Hornets were led by Jaibryn Ornelas tallied 23 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist, while Aspen Reyher contributed eight points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal, and Marcello King chipped in six points, four rebounds and one steal.
The Mustangs were led by Johnathan Cooper, who tallied 15 points, four rebounds and two blocks, while Brady Azam chipped in 15 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block, and Alan Vasquez contributed 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Raymond Ramirez tallied 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Sebastian Sparkman chipped in four points, six rebounds, six steals, three assists and one block, and Wyatt Nelson added two points, seven rebounds, five blocks, three assists and one steal. Santiago Jimenz contributed two points, two rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block, while Zayden Falcon added two points and one assist and Matias Flores finished with two points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.
The Mustangs hosted Farwell on Tuesday for their second meeting of the season, while Sudan was at Hale Center to take on the Owls. Results were not available at press time. The Mustangs will continue their season on Friday with a home game against Lockney, while Sudan will be at Lockney to take on the Longhorns.
The Mustangs are set to tip-off at 6:15 p.m., while the Hornets are scheduled to tip-off at 6:30 p.m.
