Week nine of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest has come and gone leaving just three weeks left in our contest.
This week, Mark Grace won the contest, finishing with a record of 16-4, while we had four contestants tie for second place with a mark of 15-5: Brenda Herrell, Donna Neinast, Richard Orozco and Micky Orozco.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of Notre Dame and Navy, which was 65 points.
Brenda Herrell took second place with a guess of 54 points and Donna Neinast took third place with a guess of 53 points, edging out Micky Orozco who guessed 48 points and Richard Orozco who guessed 45 points for the tie-breaker.
In the High School Ranks, Littlefield dropped a tough contest to Idalou, 58- 22, while Springlake-Earth dropped a heartbreaker to Happy, 48-46, and Sudan fell on the road to Hale Center, 5029. Olton shutout New Deal, 42-0, while Amherst 45’ed Anton, 46-0.
Sunray won a big district matchup over Panhandle, 59-41, while Dalhart took down River Road, 3519, and Booker dismantled Boys Ranch, 51-6. Wellington blasted Shamrock, 56-14, while Legacy took down Permian, 49-38.
In the college ranks, Texas A&M pulled out the upset over LSU, 3823, while Michigan won their instate rivalry game over Michigan State, 24-17, and Colorado took down Cincinnati, 34-23. Washington State edged out San Diego State, 29-26, while Hawai’i took care of Nevada, 34-13.
In the NFL, the Browns took care of the division rival Ravens, 29-24, while the Patriots defeated the Jets, 25-22, and the Broncos took care of the Panthers, 28-14. the Falcons defeated the Buccaneers, 31-26, while the Bills took care of the Seahawks, 31-10.
Those who finished 14-6 this week were Nancy Smith, David Neinast, Dewayne Hayes, Lonnie Neinast, Martin Duran, Sam Castillo and Tommy Cloninger, while those who finished 13-7 this week were Ivan Estrada, Jan Smith, Johnny Rosemond, JR Herrell, Robin Elliott, Ronnie Martin, Stevy Smith, Terrill Moorhead and Trevor Williams.
12-8 finishers this week were James Hood and JC Orozco, while Alma Castillo, Charlie Smith, Juan Garza, Larry Ashley and Teresa Dabrowski each finished 11-9 and Jazmine Davis and Sonia Balderas each finished 10-10. Ed Dabrowski and Maria Pinon each finished 713 this week to round out the field.
In the overall standings, Lonnie Neinast remains at the top by himself with 135 points, while Brenda Herrell and Duran are tied for second with 133 points each, and Jr Herrell is in third place with 129 points. Richard Orozco and Rosemond are tied for fourth with 127 points, while Donna Neinast is in fifth with 126 points.
Micky Orozco, Estrada, Jan Smith and Stevy Smith are tied for sixth with 125 points and David Neinast is in seventh with 124 points. JC Orozco and Alma Castillo are tied for eighth with 123 points, while Hayes is in ninth with 122 points and Cloninger and Martin round out the top 10 with 120 points.
