Alma Castillo wins Week 8 Football Contest

Week eight of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest has come and gone leaving just four weeks left in our contest.

This week, Alma Castillo won the contest, finishing with a mark of 16-4, while Lonnie Neinast finished second with a record of 155.

We had three players tied this week with a mark of 14-6: Amanda Gonzales, Juan Garza and Sam Castillo.

The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Bills and Titans, which was 44 points.

Sam Castillo and Garza split third place evenly, both guessing 49 points for the tie-breaker, edging out Gonzales, who guessed 36 points.

In the High School Ranks, Littlefield dropped a heart-breaker on the road to Muleshoe, 55-51, while Springlake-Earth went on the road and took down the Swifts in Nazareth, 48-22. Sudan fell to Lockney, 57-42, while Post stayed undefeated against Olton with a, 48-6, victory, and Whitharral defeated Amherst, 83-34.

Anton defeated Lazbuddie, 6012, while Sweetwater took down Comanche, 27-13, and Monterey blasted Tascosa, 56- 28. New Home rocked Floydada, 40-7, and Idalou throttled Roosevelt, 40-6.

In the college ranks, Florida defended the Swamp against Kentucky, taking the contest, 48-20, while Indiana blasted Nebraska, 56-7, and Colorado defeated Arizona, 34-7. Texas Tech fell to Baylor, 59-35, while Old Dominion defeated Texas State, 24-14.

In the NFL, The Lions edged out the Vikings, 31-29, while the Eagles blasted the Giants, 28-3, and the Packers defeated the Texans, 2422. The Chiefs took down the 49’ers, 28-18 and the game 20 was free for everyone. On the contest the game was the Giants @ Steelers, but it was supposed to be Jets @ Steelers.

Those who finished 13-7 this week were, Dewayne Hayes, James Hood, JC Orozco, Johnny Rosemond, JR Herrell, Martin Duran, Teresa Dabrowski and Tommy Cloninger. Finishing 12-8 this week were Brenda Herrell, David Neinast, Ed Dabrowski, Ivan Estrada, Mark Grace, Martin Duran Jr. and Micky Orozco.

Charlie Smith, Richard Orozco, Ronnie Martin, Stevy Smith and Trevor Williams each finished 119 this week, while Jan Smith, Maria Pinon and Robin Elliott each finished 10-10, and Donna Neinast, Jazmine Davis, Larry Ashley, Nancy Smith and Terrill Moorhead each finished 9-11 this week.

In the overall standings, Lonnie Neinast holds the top spot this week with 121 points, while Martin Duran is close behind in second place with 119 points, and Brenda Herrell is in third place with 118 points. JR Herrell is in fourth place with 116 points, while Rosemond is in fifth with 114 points, and Alma Castillo, Estrada, Richard Orozco, Jan Smith and Stevy Smith are tied for sixth with 112 points.

JC Orozco and Donna Neinast are tied for seventh with 111 points, while Hayes is in eighth with 108 points, Martin is in ninth with 107 points and Cloninger rounds out the top 10 with 106 points.
