The City of Sudan will be celebrating its annual Hornet Harvest Festival, and the Sudan School District’s homecoming on Friday September 20th and Saturday, September 21st. Two days of events are offering activities for Friday and Friday night, Sept. 20, and all day Saturday, Sept. 21.
Friday Homecoming events
Homecoming activities will be observed by Sudan Schools Friday and Friday night.
During halftime of the Homecoming game between the Sudan Hornets and Vega Longhorns, the homecoming queen will be crowned.
The Senior candidates and their escorts are: Brinley Magby escorted by Zayne Humphreys; Edette Herrera escorted by Kasen Kauffman; Garicyn Bigham escorted by Braxtyn Harrell.
Saturday’s Schedule
Everyone who plans to attend the all-day Saturday events, are invited to “take a comfortable chair and stay a while!”
The Homecoming Parade will begin at 10: 30 a. m. down mainstreet, with line-up starting at 10 a.m. Saturday morning on the Elementary School’s Parking Lot.
At 11 a.m., Festivities begin and vendors open, as well as the Hornet Hunt will begin. There will also be a performance by the Band and Cheerleaders, etc. And there will be a quilt show, Dominoes and Pie and Ice Cream at the Senior Citizens center.
(What is the Hornet Hunt? Look for Star stress balls with a Hornet Hunt tag hidden throughout the city park and parade on September 21st. Each one is numbered and may be worth a free gift! Bring your found star to the Hornet Harvest Festival Tent to see what it’s worth.)
Cornhole Tournament and Volleyball Tournament sign-ups will be available from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Sack races will take place at 11:30 a.m. followed by Egg races at 12 p.m.
The Coin dig will begin at 12:30 p.m. for ages 2-3-year olds. Ages 4-5 will do their coin dig at 12:45 p.m. and ages 6-7 will do their coin dig at 1 p.m.
The Cornhole Tournament #1 and the Volleyball Tournament will begin at 2 p.m.
An Alumni Meet and Greet will take place at Sudan ISD beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Cornhole Tournament #2 will begin at 3 p.m.
The Chapel Dedication will take place at the Sudan Cemetery and will begin at 4 p.m.
The night will conclude with a street dance from 8 to 11:30 p.m.
