The Sudan High School Academic team won its second consecutive UIL Regional Academic Championship this year.
In doing so, it took a record 42 students to Regional. This includes the One Act Play. Correspondingly, the Academic team took a record 29 students to UIL State Academic including State OAP. In addition to State OAP there were 10 entries in Academic events.
The team set several records this year including: UIL State Congress – 11th Consecutive year to make it to state (that’s every year since its inception.), UIL CX Debate - 12th Consecutive year to make it to state. (Over 20 times in school history.), National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) Nationals -13th Consecutive year to qualify for Nationals. (1st time to qualify 5.), Texas Forensic Association (TFA) - 1st time to have an entry in finals (The duo team of Chase Caswell and Drew Lockhart stood with the six finalists as the only non-6A school in the finals.), at UIL District Academic - 2nd highest team total in 2A and in 2A Speech team (although last year’s speech team scored more district points that any of the other 1,700 high schools in the state.), back-to-back Regional Academic Champions, OAP to state for the first time since 2010 (third time ever.), UIL Regional Academic team scored a school record 208.5 points to win Regional.
UIL State Congress: Emma Armstrong made it to the second day of Finals; Jolie Dyck made it to the second day of finals and Denise Gonzalez was a state alternate.
UIL State CX Debate:
Emma Armstrong, Denise Gonzalez (Team placed fifth; Garicyn Bigham and Jolie Dyck ( Team qualified for State; Enrique Gonzalez and Gibson Whittington (Team State Alternates).
