Valley Ag Electric in Olton makes 3 huge donations
The 2024 Lamb County Junior Livestock Show will begin Thursday, Jan. 4th, on behalf of the active 4-H and FFA exhibitors from every community in Lamb County.
Youngsters from Littlefield, Amherst, Olton, Springlake-Earth and Sudan will be bringing their livestock to the Ag and Community Center’s show barn in Littlefield for the show.
Judging of all of the animal categories will be done Saturday, Jan. 6th.
Their awards are designed for honor and recognition of excellence in feeding, fitting, and showmanship of their animals.
No premium auction is associated with this show.
Ribbons will be awarded to exhibitors of animals placing first through fifth, and participant ribbons will be awarded to exhibitors placing below fifth.
Rosettes will be awarded to exhibitors of breed and reserve breed champions, while belt buckles will be awarded to exhibitors of grand and reserve grand champion animals Belt buckles will also be awarded to showmanship winners in the goat, lamb, swine and beef cattle (steers and heifers combined), and dairy heifer divisions.
Animals to arrive
At 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, livestock may begin moving into the barn AFTER stall and pen assignments have been posted by division superintendents.
By 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, all livestock must be in place.
At 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, the Superintendents begin weighing steers and checking heifer papers.
The deadline is 6 p.m. for exhibitors to submit lamb, goat, and swine weight cards to the superintendents.
Animal judging
Saturday, Jan. 6, the judging of show animals will begin at 8 a.m. with the goats being judged first. After that, the lambs will be judged, followed by the swine, beef heifers, market steers and dairy heifers.
The showmanship’s will be judged during the show, and winners will be announced at the conclusion of each of the divisions.
Winners will be receiving belt buckles.

Show Announcers
Chadd Schroeder will be announcing for all of the animal shows, with the exception of the Dairy Heifer show, when Jill Van de Pol will serve as announcer.
Concessions
This year, food concessions will be provided differently than in years past.
The kitchen in the Ag Building is still under construction, so cooking will be done outdoors with tables set up inside to eat. At press time hamburgers with all trimmings will be available to purchase.
