Charlie Smith wins Week 11 of LCLN Football Contest

Week 11 of the Lamb County Leader-New’s annual football contest is in the books, and there is just one week left in our annual contest.

This week, Charlie Smith took first place finishing with a mark of 17-3, and Stevy Smith placed second this week with a mark of 16-4.

We had six contestants finish tied for third with a mark of 15-5, including, Martin Duran, Brenda Herrell, Johnny Rosemond, Tommy Cloninger, Jan Smith and Dewayne Hayes. The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Bills and Bengals, which was 42 points.

Duran edged out the others for third place with a guess of 40 points.

In the high school ranks, Permian took down Midland, 21-14, while Springlake-Earth blasted Kress, 73-28, and Floydada took down Olton, 31-25. Sudan edged out Ralls, 27-22, while Lorenzo took down Anton, 49- 0, and Nazareth defeated Wildorado, 566.

Muleshoe took down Dalhart, 53-45, while Legacy defeated Odessa, 32-21, and Sweetwater downed Snyder, 51-38.

In the college ranks, Georgia took down Missouri, 30-21, while Washington defeated USC, 52-42, and Alabama took down LSU, 4228. Clemson upset Notre Dame, 31-23, while Penn State blasted Maryland, 51-15.

In the NFL, the Raiders throttled the Giants, 30-6, while the Vikings took down the Falcons, 31-28, and the Eagles edged out the Cowboys, 28-23. The Chiefs took down the Dolphins in Germany, 2114, and the Saints defeated the Bears, 24-17.

Those who finished 14-6 this week were Ronnie Martin, Donna Neinast, Oscar Sanchez, Larry Ashley, Mark Grace, Robin Elliott and James Hood, while those who finished 13-7 were J.C. Orozco, Richard Orozco, Jonathan Magallanes, Ivan Estrada, Alma Castillo, Sam Castillo, Terrill Moorhead, Maria Pinon and Teresa Dabrowski.

12-8 finishers this week were Lonnie Neinast, David Neinast, JR Herrell and Ed Dabrowski, and Juan Garza and Thomas Blackstone each finished 10-10 this week.

In the overall standings, Duran remains in first place with 161 points, while Brenda Herrell and Rosemond are tied for second with 158 points, and Cloninger is in third place with 156 points. Martin, J.C. Orozco and Richard Orozco are tied for fourth with 155 points each, while Magallanes is in fifth with 152 points, and Lonnie Neinast is in sixth with 151 points.

David Neinast is in seventh with 150 points, while Jan Smith and Donna Neinast are tied for eighth with 149 points, and Charlie Smith, Hayes and Estarda are tied for ninth with 147 points. Stevy Smith, Sanchez, Alma Castillo and Sam Castillo round out the top 10 with 145 points.
