Highlights from PCG Board Meeting

The Plains Cotton Growers Inc. Board of Directors Meeting took place Wednesday, October 11. Here are some stand-out moments: During introductions, board members give a report on the conditions of the crop in their respective counties. While the 2023 crop has been disheartening, Borden County Business Director Carl Pepper offered some perspective. “Man we’ve got to focus on the positive in this deal,” he said. “Nobody’s shooting at us. Our country isn’t under attack. Life is good.”

During the crop conditions update portion of the meeting, Crosby County producer and PCG producer director Lloyd Arthur said he lost all of his dryland this year and would harvest all of his irrigated. “This crop is a lot like when your mother-in-law comes for a visit,” he added, jokingly. “I don’t feel bad, but I don’t feel good, either.”

PCG members were officially introduced to Daren Abney, the new executive director of the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol.

We put the PCG officer team in the hot seat to talk about their advocacy efforts in D.C. Pro tip from Vice President Travis Mires: “You probably shouldn’t go on one of these trips and break in a new pair of shoes.”

The officer team visited 16 Senators and Representatives and attended 18 fundraisers on the weeklong advocacy trip that took place September 11-15. In the September 15 issue of Cotton News, the headline for the trip recap mentioned 35,000 steps were walked in three days.
