On Saturday, February 15th, at about 4:48 a.m. a two vehicle collision resulted in one injured and one dead on US 70, approximately 0.01 miles east of CR 291.
A Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Ford Ranger was traveling west on US 70, and a 2006 Toyota Sienna was traveling east on US 70. The Ford Ranger crossed over into the eastbound lane, colliding with the Toyota Sienna, front left to front left. The driver of the Ford Ranger, David Diaz Jimenez, 67 of Hart was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries he sustained from the crash.
The driver of the Toyota Sienna was transported to UMC in Lubbock with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger in the Toyota Sienna, Alejandro Cacao, 20 of Earth, was not injured during the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
