Plains Cotton Growers President- elect Donald J. Trump, decided to throw the media a curve ball and nominate someone for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture that wasn’t on anyone’s lists.
The announcement came November 23, after many speculated over every candidate but the one named. With all the accolades and endorsements coming out of the woodwork after her nomination was announced, Rollins sounds like the best kept secret of the Trump Administration.
So who is Brooke Rollins?
She’s a Texas native, Texas A&M alum (first female student body president in the history of the university) and grew up actively involved in FFA and 4-H. She hails from the small town of Glen Rose where she was raised by her multi-generational farm family. She now resides in Fort Worth where her children are actively engaged in their show cattle projects.
Work History:·
• Attorney for Hughes & Luce Law Firm in Dallas, Texas
• President and CEO of the Texas Public Policy Foundation
• Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s Policy Director
• Assistant to President Trump for Intergovernmental and Technology Initiatives and Director of the Office of American Innovation (2018-2020)
• Director of the Domestic Policy Council in the Trump Administration (May 2020-December 2020)
• Co-founder, President and CEO of the America First Policy Institute alongside former Trump advisor Larry Kudlow.
If confirmed, Rollins will oversee the USDA’s $430 billion yearly budget and its heavy input on the food industry, according to Successful Farming magazine.
When commenting on the nomination, Rollins stated, “Thank you, Mr. President, for the opportunity to serve as the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. It will be the honor of my life to fight for America’s farmers and our nation’s agricultural communities. This is big stuff for a small town ag girl from Glen Rose, TX — truly the American dream at its greatest.”
