Water well measurements still being conducted

The High Plains Water Conservation District reported that the annual water level measurements are still being taken to determine the effects of last year’s pumping from the aquifers in the district.

HPWD representatives will be in Bailey, Castro, Cochran, Floyd, Hale, Lamb, Lynn and Swisher counties. Rechecks are being stll being done in all counties.

Rechecks are needed when field technicians can’t measure a well because it is pumping or the measurement was not attainable for some reason.

HPWD reported last week than 1,289 wells had been measured since Jan. 3, including 10 in Armstrong County, 96 in Bailey, 69 in Cochran, 76 in Crosby, 102 in Deaf Smith, 58 in Floyd, 118 in Hale, 97 in Hockley, 115 in Lamb, 120 in Lubbock, 74 in Lynn, 103 in Parmer, seven in Potter, 51 in Randall and 93 in Swisher counties.

When measurements are completed, results will be posted to the water district’s web site.
