The Lamb County Leader- News’ annual Football Contest is already four weeks into the season.
This week we had three contestants tie for the top mark with a score of 18-2. They were: Mark Grace, Robin Elliott and Thomas Blackstone.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Seahawks and Cardinals, which was 38 points.
Blackstone took first place with a guess of 43 points, while Grace finished 2nd with a guess of 48 points and Elliott finished third with a guess of 50 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield squared off with Christoval in Lamesa on Friday, taking the contest, 62-21, while Olton went on the road to Lockney and took down the Longhorns, 28-12. Sudan came up just short in their Homecoming game against Vega, 35-32, while Anton took down Springlake-Earth, 36-22, and Silverton 45’ed Amherst, 53-0.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty edged out West Plains, 29-28, while Jayton 45’ed Whitharral, 47-0, and Sweetwater shutout Levelland, 44-0. Gruver blasted River Road, 63-27, while Coahoma defeated Abernathy, 34-16. In the College ranks, Georgia handled business against Arkansas, 45-17, while Notre Dame took down Michigan State, 2710, and Virginia Tech defeated Maryland, 35-26. Ole Miss pulled an upset over LSU, 32-24, while West Virginia took down Virginia, 38-27.
In the NFL, the Chiefs edged out the Colts in overtime, 33-30, while the 49’ers handled the Dolphins, 35-13, and the Raiders took down the Chargers, 26-14. The Broncos defeated the Jaguars, 20-13, while the Cowboys took down the Commanders, 37-20.
Individual results are as follows: Those who finished 17-3 this week were David Neinast and Donna Neinast, while 16-4 finishers included Scott Rojas, Sonja Robey, Dewayne Hayes, Jan Smith, John Hernandez, Sam Castillo, Stevy Smith and Tim Walker.
Contestants who finished 15-5 this week were Hilaria Saenz, Alma Castillo, JC Orozco, Johnny Rosemond, JR Herrell, Juan Garza, Larry Ashley, Lonnie Neinast, Micky Orozco and Richard Orozco, while Oscar Sanchez and Stevy Raney each finished 14-6, and Brenda Herrell, Martin Duran, Moe Castillo, Stephanie Dabrowski and Teresa Dabrowski each finished 13-7 this week.
Ed Dabrowski finished 12-8, while Jimmy Garcia and Stetson Sedberry rounded out the field going 1 0 -1 0 .
In the overall standings, the three-way tie for first continues, as David Neinast, Rosemond and Lonnie Neinast are tied for the top spot with 61 points.
Hernandez and Raney are tied for second with 60 points, while Donna Neinast, Hayes and JC Orozco are tied for third with 59 points, and Blackstone, Jan Smith, Stevy Smith, JR Herrell and Richard Orozco are tied for fourth with 58 points Sam Castillo and Ashley are tied for fifth with 57 points, while Walker and Micky Orozco are tied for sixth with 55 points, and Brenda Herrell and Duran are tied for seventh with 54 points. Elliott and Sanchez are tied for ninth with 54 points and Garza rounds out the top 10 with 52 points.
