A fatal crash took place on the evening of Thanksgiving, last Thursday, Nov. 24th, approximately eight miles south of Springlake.
Ma De La Luz Villarreal, 55, of Hereford, was driving her 2011 GMC Acadia northbound on US 385. Alma Ramos, 50, of Oklahoma City, was driving her 2022 Ford F150, and was southbound and approaching the 2011 GMC Acadia. A wintry mix of precipitation was falling, and the roadway was wet and slushy in places. The Ford F150 began to skid and veered into the northbound lane and crashed head-on with the GMC Acadia.
Villarreal was pronounced dead at the scene by Lamb County Justice of the Peace Becky DeBerry and an eight-year-old female passenger of Oklahoma City in the F150 was transported to Covenant Children’s Hospital Emergency Room in Lubbock with life-threatening injuries, where she was pronounced deceased later that evening by Medical Staff.
Ramos was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries. Passenger, Guadalupe Montoya, 45, of Odessa, Texas, was transported to UMC with serious injuries. Passenger, Gerardo Montoya, 46, of Oklahoma City, OK, was transported to UMC in Lubbock with serious injuries and a five-year-old passenger of Oklahoma City, OK, was transported to UMC in Lubbock with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers. Information may change, be corrected, or be added based on the investigator’s findings.
