Thirteen band students competed in the UIL Solo and Ensemble competition in Abernanthy, Texas, on Feb. 27, 2026, sending their brass quintet to the state competition in May.
Ratings for the competition are ranked on a scale from “Poor” to “Superior,” with “Poor” meaning the performance is lacking, and “Superior” being the highest possible rating.
Four ensembles per-formed, with one receiving a “Good” rating and two receiving an “Excellent” rating. Two student soloists each received “Excellent” ratings.
The brass quintet received a “Superior” rating, earning a spot at the State Solo and Ensemble Competition. The brass quintet consists of David Jiminez, Ricardo Perez, Danicka Wallace, Nikka Silbas and Samuel Briseno.
