Two Springlake-Earth FFA Members who attended the Texas Cattle Feeders Jr. Fed Beef Career and Leadership Program June 22 – 15, were Clayton Stevenson and Davey Clayton.
The camp was hosted by West Texas A&M, The Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
CFA’s Junior Fed Beef Career & Leadership Program, commonly known as “Feedyard Camp,” is designed for incoming high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in pursuing a career in the beef industry. The four-day camp gives students an in-depth look into all aspects of the beef industry, including managing day-to-day operations on a feedyard.
Participants receive hands-on instruction about feedyard operations, as well as career opportunities in the fed beef industry. Students participate in operation problem solving and leadership activities, which include tours of commercial cattle feeding operations, a tour of a beef processing facility, the opportunity to learn the anatomy of a beef carcass and fabricate a beef half, and participate in a consumer beef taste panel.
Upon conclusion of the program, students participated in a job shadow program with a local feedyard.
