South Plains Community Action Association will hold their annual board meeting on April 6th at 6pm at the Texas Tech Ranching Heritage Center.
SPCAA has served the South Plains area for 58 years by providing community programs that promote self-sufficiency and fulfillment. Notable programs within the agency include, SPARTAN Transportation, WIC, Head Start, Workforce Solutions, Utility and Rent Assistance, and many more.
“Community Action is more than an agency. It’s an opportunity for people.” says Bill Powell, the Ex-ecutive Director of SPCAA. The opportunities at SPCAA are extensive, with six divisions and dozens of programs available for the community, the majority of them being free.
While the community may recognize notable SPCAA programs like WIC or Head Start, it is important that they are aware of the additional assistance they can benefit from. For example, individuals with children enrolled in Head Start may benefit from the SPCAA Health Insurance Navigator Program, which provides free assistance for finding health coverage. The annual board meeting hosted every year is an opportunity for the agency to highlight program successes as well as evaluate the quality of assistance provided throughout the 114 counties in Texas that SPCAA services. Board members, community leaders, and agency executives will join together and honor the hard work that was accomplished in the past year.
