The Rotary Club of Littlefield hosted a meeting on April 2, 2026.
At the beginning of the meeting, Rotarians were accompanied by third, fourth and fifth-grade students receiving recognition through the Readers, Writers and Reasoners program. The Readers, Writers and Reasoners program recognizes students who have improved most in reading, writing and math.
This fourth-six weeks’ recipients included most-improved third grade readers Gianna Ferrumpau, Frankie Espinoza, Carter Green and Esperanza Carrizales; mostimproved fourth grade writers Inara Devaughn, Aaron Garcia, Reimi Pearson, Perla Talamantes and Noemy Talamantes Mendoza; mostimproved fifth grade reasoners Braxton Lopez, Jaylah Minjarez, Dominic Basquez and Erin Spafford. Rotary Club President Bree Clark called the meeting to order by ringing the Rotary bell. Clark called on Rotarian Matt Allison to lead the club in the Pledge of Allegiance, on Judge Mike DeLoach to lead the club in prayer and on Dezi Vargas to lead the 4-way test.
First, Rotary Scholarship recipient Alex Hernandez updated Rotarians about her college prospects and expressed gratitude for their support. Hernandez is a 2023 Rotary scholarship recipient and a current student at South Plains College, where she is studying early childhood education. Further, she is planning to transfer to Texas Tech University.
“I want to say thank you so much to the Rotary Club for all of the opportunities y’all have given me and the scholarships,” Hernandez said. “It really does help. It’s encouraging to know that there are people in the community who have your back.”
Next, Clark initiated nominations for President-Elect. Vargas nominated Rachel Moreno, whose nomination was seconded by Lori Zinn. “She’s well qualified, and she always brings challenging ideas to the table,” Vargas said.
Accepting her nomination, Rachel Moreno was unanimously elected as the 2026 through 2027 President-Elect of the Rotary Club.
After Moreno’s election, Clark initiated nominations for Club Secretary. Zin nominated Lupe Rodriguez, whose nomination was seconded by Clark.
“When I can’t, when Bree can’t, (Rodriguez) just steps up to the plate,” Zinn said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s selling tickets, fundraising … whatever we do, I couldn’t be more proud of you because you give, and you give, and you give.”
Clark echoed sentiments similar to Zinn’s commentary about Rodriguez’s dedication to the organization.
“ She’s at every single meeting and helps with every single committee that we have,” Clark said. “She goes above and beyond, not just in Rotary, but for our community.”
Vargas nominated Lupe Marquez, whose nomination was seconded by Derek Purdon.
“I work with (Marquez) closely in the chamber, and she led the chamber and has enthusiasm, and she has the time and organizational skills to do the job,” Vargas said. “It’s healthy that we have more than one person to step up and be an officer of the club.”
With both members accepting their nominations, Rotarians voted via written ballot for their next Club Secretary. Lupe Rodriguez won by majority vote.
Following the nominations, Zinn discussed plans for the Administrative Professionals Luncheon taking place on April 22, 2026. Nomination forms for Administrative Professional of the Year are scheduled to be published next week. Selection will occur through an independent committee, and those interested in nominating an individual should submit the form to Lori Zinn.
Additionally, Zinn asked that any administrative professionals retiring this year should also be submitted to her to receive recognition at the luncheon.
Wrapping the meeting up with brief reminders, Clark adjourned the meeting by ringing the Rotary bell.
