Rosemond leads in first update of Bowl Blowout Challenge

The Bowl Blowout Challenge got underway last week at the Lamb County Leader-News, with a handful of games already in the books, as well as the first round of the College Football Play-off.

In the first round of the playoffs, the home teams prevailed, as Notre Dame kicked things off with a, 27-17, victory over Indiana on Friday, Dec. 20th in South Bend, Indiana. They advance to play Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Jan. 1st.

On Satruday, Dec. 21st, Penn State dismantled SMU, 38-10, while Texas held off Clemson, 3824, and Ohio State demolished Tennessee at the Horeshoe, 42-17. Penn State will take on Boise State on Dec. 31st in the Fiesta Bowl, while Texas will take on Arizona State in the Peach Bowl on Jan. 1st, and Ohio State will have a rematch with Oregon on Jan. 1st at the Rose Bowl.

In the Bowl games, on Dec. 14th Jackson State defeated South Carolina State in the Celebration Bowl, 28-7, while South Alabama edged out Western Michigan in the Veterans Bowl, 30-23. On Dec. 17th, Memphis took down West Virginia, 42-37, in the Frisco Bowl, and on Dec. 18th, James Madison defeated Western Kentucky, 2717, in the Boca Raton Bowl, and UNLV took down Cal in the LA Bowl, 24-13.

On Friday, Dec. 19th, Sam Houston won the New Orleans Bowl over Georgia Southern, 31-26, and on Dec. 20th, Ohio defeated Jacksonville State, 30-27, in the Cure Bowl, and Florida blasted Tulane, 33-8, in the Gasparilla Bowl. UTSA hammered Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Dec. 23rd.

The Bowl Blowout Challenge this year had 14 contestants.

Johnny Rosemond leads the way with the only perfect bracket, tallying 29 points so far, while Bill Albus, Rocky Bowman and Lance Patridge are tied for second with 27 points each. Martin Duran has 26 points, while Mark Grace has 25 points and John Hernandez and Tim Walker each have 24 points.

Amanda Martin has 23 points, while Larry Ashley, Stetson Sedberry and Mari Pinon are tied with 20 points each. Joe Lopez has 18 points and Patricia Lopez has 16 points to round out the field.
