Week seven of the Lamb County Leader-New’s annual football contest in the books, and the field is starting to take shape down the stretch with only five weeks left in our contest.
This week, Ronnie Martin, Johnny Rosemond, Tommy Cloninger and Martin Duran tied for the top spot each going 16-4. The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins, which was 47 points. Duran and Martin tied on the tie-breaker, both guessing 48 points, to split the first and second place price evenly.
For third place, we had Cloninger and Rosemond tie both guessing two points off of the tiebreaker. Cloninger guessed 49 points and Rosemond guessed 47 points, forcing an even split for third place.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield blasted Coahoma in their district-opener on Friday, 55-21, while Kress took down Anton, 520, and Olton defeated Post, 36-15. Whiteface won a tough battle over Springlake-Earth, 34-22, while Sudan handled Hale Center in their district-opener, 20-7.
Perryton defeated Levelland, 4118, while Bushland took care of business against Muleshoe, 5626, and Idalou blasted Abernathy, 48-6. Legacy won a shootout over Frenship, 63-56.
In the college ranks, OU won this year’s edition of the Red River Rivalry over Texas, 34-30, while LSU took down Missouri, 49-39, and Notre Dame fell on the road to undefeated Louisville, 33-20. Colorado survived against Arizona State, 27-24, while Ole Miss took down Arkansas, 27-20.
In the NFL, The Falcons edged out the Texans, 21-19, while the Colts took down the Titans, 2316, and the Jets defeated the Broncos, 31-21. The 49ers handled the Cowboys, 42-10, and the Steelers defeated their division rival Ravens, 17-10.
Those who finished 14-6 this week were Lonnie Neinast, David Neinast, Terrill Moorhead, Jan Smith and Ed Dabrowski, while those who finished 13-7 this week were, Brenda Herrell, Jonathan Magallanes, Dewayne Hayes, Stevy Smith and Sam Castillo. 128 finishers this week were JC Orozco, Oscar Sanchez, Maria Pinon, Charlie Smith and James Hood.
Richard Orozco, Alma Castillo, Juan Garza and Larry Ashley finished 11-9 this week, while Donna Neinast, Robin Elliott, Sandra Williams and Danny Sanders each finished 10-10, and Ivan Estrada, Thomas Blackstone, Teresa Dabrowski and Jimmy Garcia each finished 9-11 this week.
In the overall standings, Duran has put some distance between himself and the field for the top spot with 104 points, while Cloninger is in second place with 99 points and Martin and Rosemond are tied for third with 98 points. Brenda Herrell and Magallanes are tied for fourth with 97 points.
Lonnie Neinast, David Neinast and Richard Orozco are tied for fifth place with 96 points, while JC Orozco is in sixth place with 95 points, and Estrada is in seventh place with 94 points. Moorhead, Hayes and Donna Neinast are tied for eighth with 93 points, while Sanchez is in ninth with 92 points and Jan Smith rounds out the top 10 with 91 points.
