Richard Orozco Wins Week four of Football Contest

Week four of the Lamb County Leader-New’s annual football contest wrapped up on Sunday with the NFL games, as we inch closer to the halfway point in the contest.

Richard Orozco took first place this week with a mark of 16-4, while we had six contestants tie for second with a mark of 15-5: JC Orozco, Robin Elliott, Maria Pinon, Ivan Estrada, Sam Castilo and Oscar Sanchez. The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Dolphins and Patriots, which was 41 points.

Pinon took second place with a guess of 38 points, and JC Orozco finished third edging out the competition with a guess of 47 points. Estrada guessed 48 points, Sam Castillo guessed 49 points, Sanchez guessed 50 points and Elliott guessed 60 points.

In the high school ranks, Littlefield blasted Lamesa on the road, 47-18, for their third win in a row, while Sudan dropped a heartbreaker to Seagraves on Homecoming, 21-20. Amherst went to Springlake-Earth and took down the Wolverines, 52-48, while Olton took down Bovina on the road, 2620.

Tahoka thrashed Crosbyton, 626, while Coronado snuck past Abilene Cooper, 27-21, and Hereford took down the Tascosa Rebels, 26-14. Harker Heights knocked off Permian, 27-25, to round out the high school scores this week.

In the college ranks, LSU handled Mississippi State, 41-14, while Louisville won a close contest over Indiana, 21-14, and Penn State defeated Illinois, 30-13. Florida pulled the upset over Tennessee, taking the contest, 29-16, and Syracuse took down Purdue, 35-20.

In the NFL, The Ravens edged out the Bengals, 27-24, while the Chiefs clipped the Jaguars, 17-9, and the Colts took down the Texans, 31-20. The Cowboys blasted the Jets, 30-10, and the Bills back back on track with a win against the Raiders, 38-10.

The rest of the field’s individual scores are as follows: Those who finished 14 6 this week were Martin Duran, Terrill Moorhead, Alma Castillo, Stevy Smith and Donna Neinast, while 13-7 finishers this week included Mark Grace, Jonathan Magallanes, Charlie Smith, JR Herrell and Thomas Blackstone. 12-8 finishers this week were Lonnie Neinast, David Neinast, Juan Garza, Dewayne Hayes, Tommy Cloninger, Jan Smith, Brenda Herrell, Larry Ashley and Johnny Williams.

Those who finished 11-9 this week were James Hood, Ronnie Martin, Ed Dabrowski, Johnny Rosemond and Teresa Dabrowski, while Sandra Williams finished 1010 and Jimmy Garcia finsihed 8-12 this week.

In the overall standings, Duran still holds a narrow lead for the top spot with 55 points, while Richard Orozco is in second place with 54 points, and Donna Neinast and JC Orozco are tied for third with 53 points. Estrada, Magallanes and David Neinast are tied for fourth with 52 points, while Grace is in fifth with 51 points.

Pinon, Moorhead, Alma Castillo, Garza, Brenda Herrell and Martin are tied for sixth with 50 points. Sam Castillo and Cloninger are tied for seventh with 49 points, while Sanchez, Charlie Smith, Lonnie Neinast, Hayes and Rosemond are tied for eighth with 48 points. Stevy Smtih and Ashley are tied for ninth with 47 points, while JR Herrell, Blackstone, Jan Smith, Ed Dabrowski and Sandra Williams round out the top 10 with 46 points each.
