Peace I Leave With You ...

Peace? For most of us, the word peace seems like something impossible to attain because we can think of countless things that prevent us from experiencing the peace we desire. We think, “If only I could go on a long vacation,” or “If only I could get a better job.” Or “If only I could live in a different (tropical) place.” Or “If only I could win the big lottery-that would slove all my problems.” But the Bible paints a different picture regarding peace.

In John 14: 27 Jesus says, “ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” This scripture along with many others reveals that pace is not situational. In other words, we don’t receive true peace when all our troublesome circumstances are resolved. Instead, we learn that peace only comes from a true and genuine and active relationship with Jesus. This means we walk with God daily and make a deliberate choice to honor Him in all that we do. The mystery of how exactly this can happen resides not so much in our own efforts but in God’s grace and in his unswerving desire to deliver on the promise he has made.

In fact, let me leave you with another great verse. Isaiah 26:3 says, “ You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in your.”

If we want to experience lasting peace, it is vital to keep walking on the path of faith, to continue to follow the one who loves us, God our Father.
