PASTOR’S CORNER

Do You Have an Attitude of Gratitude?

A few years ago I had the wonderful privilege of visiting Mount Vernon, Virginia and touring the long-time earthly home of our first President, George Washington. It was a wonderful & impressive experience that certainly pointed to Mr. Washington’s faith in Jesus Christ.

All that to say, it’s not surprising that Thanksgiving was established by President George Washington on November 26, 1789. It is a religious holiday started by the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving lasted three days, during which the Pilgrims feasted with their Indian guests. Again, this all points to Jesus and our natural response as believes to have an attitude of gratitude.

In fact, the Bible says to us as believers in Psalm 106:1 – “Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Also Hebrews 13:15 says, “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name.” And we’re commanded in 1 Thessalonians 5 to “Give thanks in all circumstances.”

Now maybe a hardship or tragedy has hit your life and you don’t want to thank God this season. But the Bible doesn’t say, “Give thanks to the Lord when you feel good,” rather, because “He is good!” And it doesn’t say, “Give thanks FOR all circumstances.” It says, “ IN all circumstances.”If Jesus is your Savior, and Heaven is your Home, then we can always give thanks!

May God bless you, and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Love You All, Pastor Tanner Wilson P.S. I suggest you eat well and wear some stretchy pants next Thursday!
