Four women runners and other Olympic Torch Relay personnel brought the Torch down Phelps Avenue nearly an hour late from the scheduled arrival. The Torch was slowed at Slaton with a traffic jam, and was running late after that time. The route of entrance into Littlefield was changed from the original plans, as they came into town on East Delano, then turned down Phelps Avenue to the City Hall, then east in front of the Post Office, and down LfD Drive to their stopping point at the intersection of XIT and East 10th. Thousands of people crowded that corner to greet the cadre of runners and associated vehicles. (Photo from the June 21, 1984 Edition of the Lamb County Leader-News)
