October Is National Co-op Month

President Franklin Roosevelt’s Rural Electrification Administration in 1935 provided the funding for coops to build infrastructure for distributing electric power beyond cities and towns.

In 1938 Lamb County Electric Cooperative was established for the purpose of making life better for the community, and today we continue to strive for that purpose.

Our service area extends through Lamb, Hockley, Castro, Bailey, Hale, and Cochran counties. While our network of members is constantly expanding, we presently provide service to approximately 11,687 meters and 2,351 members, with over 3,293 miles of energized line.

As an electric cooperative, our mission is to serve our members and support our local communities. One of the seven principles that guides all co-ops is “concern for community.” Our cooperative principles set us apart from other electric utilities.

October is National Co- op Month, and electric cooperatives across the country are highlighting the many ways we “Power On.” Keeping this theme in mind, LCEC recognizes the essential role we play in serving our unique communities.

In 2024, LCEC continues their commitment to providing members safe, reliable electric service at the lowest cost. With the retirement of three tenured employees, LCEC is moving forward to maintain a well-trained and quality workforce, to meet our members’ needs.

LCEC’s Government-in-Action Youth Tour had a substantial number of high school students apply for the “trip of a lifetime” to Washington D.C. In 2024 Garicyn Bigham, and Miriam Cueto were selected to represent Lamb County EC. Denton Moore was selected to represent Golden Spread EC and Caytlin Black was selected to represent Deaf Smith EC. Youth tour delegate, Denton Moore, was selected to represent Golden Spread EC, Lamb County EC, Littlefield, and Texas as the Texas delegate to the NRECA Youth Leadership Council. The highest honor a youth tour delegate can receive. Denton is the first Texas representative from Lamb County EC.

After three years of drive-thru membership meetings, LCEC held its 86th Annual Membership inperson meeting in September.

Lamb County EC has and will continue to pull together to serve our members, working quickly and safely to keep outages to a minimum and restore electric power. At Lamb County Electric Cooperative, this is what we do for our cooperative family. “We don’t stop, ‘til the power is on.”
