Well, it’s me again in all my glory. Most of you don’t know, but I did a stupid thing, even for me, on the 8 th of August, and broke my Patella (knee cap), had surgery and am in a brace for three (3) months. Yep, all the way through October.
So, I am having to depend on any and all others to take up the slack and keep things rolling. As most of you know, my best worker, Pat Robbins has not been up to par for several months, and my other dependable person, Cheryl McCartney, has been so busy with her mom, Carolyn, that she hasn’t had a lot of time for the museum either. So if you have been by and couldn’t get in – now you know why.
As I have said so many times, we need more workers, which brings me to say, “Thank you to all that have paid their dues, and made other donations”. I at least have been able to pay the utilities and keep our head above water but I need the rest of our members to come through and pay their dues. I don’t think $50 a year is too much money, but if it is a hardship for some of you, just let me know.
Now this all brings me up to the present time¨ yes, we are still planning to have the “Wine Tasting” on SATURDAY, October 23 rd . So many of you have asked about that and we always look forward to seeing you all at this special fund raiser. You know that Sally Davidson is a native of Littlefield, and I have heard the rumor that she may be thinking of retiring. If that is so, this may be the last Holy Cross Abbey Winery tasing that we ever have.
So, we will be looking at other directions to celebrate getting together. I have one person that WANTS TO DO A Bar-B-Que for us, but the way things have been going for the past two (2) years, it it’s really hard to plan for things.
My granddaughter, who is now living with us, came home the second week of school, sick as could be, and we immediately had a Covid test, which was negative, so that pandemic is still a threat to all of us.
Yes, it is in the school now and all over town, so we really have to be on our toes. Can you imagine what would have happened if she had Covid and me with recent surgery? What a mess. So, all of you take care of your selves, and if we cannot have the “Tasting”, keep in mind that you can always call the museum, or Alan Newton, and order the wine. I am of the opinion that Holy Cross Abbey has delicious, scrumptious wine and I really miss it, and you.
I am so proud of the Museum. It is truly a “Keeper of the Past” and I am glad I can be a part of it. Does everyone not realize that the Duggan House is one of the oldest buildings in town, and may be the oldest one standing — Over 100 years old, and truly the beginning of the making of Littlefield, Texas.
Your children and grandchildren will be grateful in the future, that we have managed to save so much from their grandparents and great-grandparents’ lives. We try to do the best for everyone that we can, and as I have said before, if you have any suggestions for fund-raisers, or any other things to do, PLEASE let us know.
I am going to close for now, mainly because my leg is starting to throb and I need to get it situated, before I scream. Have a wonderful week-end, and keep us in mind for all your functions. wge
