MLK Commemorative Council, Community Members to Celebrate MLK Legacy

The Martin Luther King Commemorative Council of Lubbock and City Council members are set to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. starting January 15 and continuing through the 19.

Various events and guest speakers will commemorate King’s legacy at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, located at 1501 Mac Davis Lane.

Friday, January 16 – Individuals of Distinction Award Banquet at 6:30 p.m. The banquet is $30.00 per person. Guest speakers include Dr. Stephanie Smith-Jeffery and Dr. Christa Tillman Young. For more information, contact Yolanda Jeffery (806) 773-1625.

Saturday, January 17– Youth Night/Musical at 6:30 P.M. For more information, contact Michael Connor (806) 252-0819.

Sunday – January 18 – Citywide Service at 5 p.m. For more information, contact Bishop Deshaun Avery (806) 777-1597. Patrons will hear from speaker Dr. Ralph M McCormick, Second Calvary Baptist Church of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Monday – January 19 MLK Day of Service throughout the community.
