Martin Duran Wins Week Three Football Contest

Week three of the Lamb County Leader-New’s annual football contest wrapped up on Sunday with the NFL Season getting under way. Week three also saw some upsets in the college rankings and high school ranks as well.

Martin Duran took first place again this week, finishing with a mark of 16- 4, while Terrill Moorhead finished in second place this week with a record of 15-5. Lonnie Neinast edged out Robin Elliott for third place by way of tie-breaker, which was the combined score of Texas Tech vs Oregon, 68 points.

Lonnie Neinast’s guess of 60 points was closer than Elliott’s guess of 40 points.

In the high school ranks, Littlefield won their Homecoming game over Post, 38-14, while Sudan rallied back in the second half on the road to take down Ropes, 24-21. Springlake-Earth came up short against Happy, 4842, while Farwell took down Sundown, 23-7. Olton fell to Texico, N.M. in overtime, 36-34, while Anton fell to Kingdom Prep, 32-7, and Floydada defeated Smyer, 42-20. New Home blasted Hale Center, 64-6, while Seagraves defeated Tahoka on the road, 39-34. Plains edged out Lockney, 28-21.

In the college ranks, Cincinnati defeated Pitt on the road, 27-21, while Utah survived an upset scare from Baylor, 20-13, and Notre Dame stayed unbeaten on the season with a, 45-24, victory over North Carolina State. Miami pulled out an upset over Texas A&M, 4833 and Texas pulled off the upset in Tuscaloosa, 34-24, over Alabama.

In the NFL, the Falcons took down the division foe, Panthers, 24-10, while the Browns pummeled the Bengals, 23-3. The Cowboys shutout the Giants on Sunday night, 40-0, and the Packers took down the Bears, 38-20. The Eagles clipped the Patritots, 25-20.

The rest of the field’s individual scores are as follows: Those who finished 13-7 this week were David Neinast, Jonathan Magallanes, Juan Garza, Dewayne Hayes, Alma Castillo, Maria Pinon, Charlie Smith, Stevy Smith and James Hood, while those who finsihed 12-8 were Ronnie Martine, Donna Neinast, Richard Orozco, JC Orozco, Mark Grace, Tommy Cloninger, Ivan Estrada, Sandra Williams, Ed Dabrowski and JR Herrell.

Sam Castillo and Oscar Sanchez each finished 11-9 this week, while Johnny Rosemond, Jan Smith and Thomas Blackstone each finished 10-10. Brenda Herrell, Larry Ashley and Jimmy Garcia each finished 911 this week and Teresa Dabrowski rounded out the field this week finishing 6-14.

In the overall standings, Duran holds a narrow lead in first place with 41 points, while David Neinast is alone in second place with 40 points and Magallanes, Martin and Donna Neinast are tied for third with 39 points each.

Garza, Richard Orozco, JC Orozco, Grace and Herrell are tied for fourth with 38 points, while Cloninger, Estrada and Rosemond are tied for fifth with 37 points, and Moorhead, Lonnie Neinast, Hayes, Alma Castillo and Williams are tied for sixth with 36 points.

Pinon, Charlie Smith, Ed Dabrowski and Ashley are tied for seventh with 35 points, while Sam Castillo and Jan Smith are tied for eighth with 34 points. Stevy Smith, JR Herrell, Sanchez and Blackstone are tied for ninth with 33 points and Garcia rounds out the top 10 in the overall standings with 31 points.
