Week five of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is behind us and this week’s list of games had some great match-ups.
Alma Castillo finished all alone at the top this week with a mark of 17-3, while we had 10 contestants tie for second place with a mark of 16-4.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score between the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Giants, which was 31 points.
Charlie Smith guessed closest to the mark with a guess of 41 points, while JR Herrell, finished in third this week with a guess of 44 points.
On the high school slate of games, Littlefield came up short on Homecoming against Abernathy, 35-20, while Olton brought home the Homecoming victory over Hale Center, 33-12. Amherst fell on the road to Wildorado, 39-8, while Sudan came up short on Homecoming against Crosbyton, 26-20.
Anton 45’ed Whiteface, 83-37, while Springlake-Earth 45’ed White Deer on the road, 47-0, in the first half. Idalou prevailed over New Deal, 28-14, while Andrews took down Estacado, 14-7 and Ropes blasted Tahoka, 42-8.
In the college ranks, Notre Dame picked up a statement win over Wisconsin at Soldier Field, 41-13, while Texas routed the Red Raiders, 70-35, and Oregon stood strong against Arizona, 41-19. LSU edged out Mississippi State, 28- 25, while Toledo took down Ball State, 22-12.
In the NFL, The Saints took down the Patriots, 28-13, while the Browns downed the Bears, 26-6, and the Chargers took down the Chiefs, 30-24. The Raiders needed overtime, but defeated the Dolphins, 31-28, and the Rams defeated the Buccaneers, 34-24.

Contestants who finished 15-5 this week were, Martin Duran, Larry Ashley, Johnny Rosemond, Jim Davis Jr. and Devin Garcia, while those who finished 14-6 include, Robin Elliott, Oscar Sanchez, Mark Grace, Marcelino Castillo, Lyndel Evans, Juan Hernandez, Jim Davis Sr., Floyce Pierce, Ed Dabrowski, David Neinast and Brenda Herrell.
Those who finished 13-7 this week were Johnny Williams, Bobby Cunningham and Alma Castillo, while Stevy Smith, Sam Castillo, Richard Orozco, Marcelino Garcia Jr. and Chris Ruiz each finished 12-8 this week. Teresa Dabrowski and Ronnie Martin each finished 11-9, while Thomas Blackstone finished 10- 10 this week.
In the overall standings, Donna Neinast sits alone at the top of the standings in first place with 74 points, while Lonnie Neinast and Tommy Cloninger are tied for second with 73 points each. Sanchez and David Neinast are tied for third with 72 points, while Rosemond and Evans are tied for fourth with 70 points.
Kay Cloninger, Estrada and Davis Jr. are tied for fifth with 68 points, while JR Herrell, Moorehead and Grace are tied for sixth with 67 points, and Jan Smith, Hayes, Duran and Garcia Jr. are tied for seventh with 66 points.
Ed Dabrowski is in eighth with 65 points, while Davis Sr. and Blackstone are tied for ninth with 64 points and Elliott rounds out the top 10 with 63 points.
