The Lamb County Leader-News’ annual football contest wrapped up it’s fourth set of games this past week.
We had a six-way tie for the top spot this week between David Neinast, JC Orozco, Lonnie Neinast, Dewayne Hayes, Ronnie Martin and Martin Duran Sr., who each finished 16-4 this week The tie-breaker for week four was the combined score of the Packers and Browns, which was 23 points. Lonnie Neinast edged out the competition for first place with a guess of 40 points, while David Neinast took second place with a guess of 44 points and Hayes took third place with a guess of 46 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield handed Frenship Memorial their first loss of the season, 42-14, while Sudan went on the road and took down Vega, 35- 6. Olton fell to Ropes, 62-21, while Springlake-Earth fell to McLean on Thursday, 74-52, and Amherst won their Homecoming game over Dawson, 55-6.
Anton took down Wilson 55-8, while Wink defeated Forsan, 48-14, and Permian edged out Tascosa, 23-21. Legacy blasted Abilene, 4228, and Seagraves shutout Bovina, 37-0.
In the college ranks, Miami took down Florida, 267, while Missouri edged out South Carolina, 29-20, and Texas Tech upset Utah, 3410. Notre Dame picked up their first win of the season, taking down Purdue, 56-30, and Michigan picked up a narrow win over Nebraska, 30-27.
In the NFL this week, the Jaguars took down the Texans, 17-10, while the Commanders blasted the Raiders, 41-24, and the Vikings blasted the Bengals, 48-10. The Bears defeated the Cowboys, 31-14, while the 49’ers edged out the Cardinals, 16-15.
The rest of the contestant scores for week one are as follows: Those who finished 15-5 this week were JR Herrell, Larry Ashley, Micky Orozco, Richard Orozco, Stephanie Dabrowski and Stevy Smith, while those who went 14-6 were Donna Neinast, Ed Dabrowski, Jan Smith, Juan Garza, Mark Grace and Robin Elliott. Brenda Herrell, Jimmy Garcia and Maria Pinon went 13-7 this week, while Alma Castillo, Charlie Smith, Martin Duran Jr., Johnny Rosemond and Sam Castillo each went 12-8, and Aaron Moore, Jonathan Magallanes, Moe Castillo, Stetson Sedberry and Terrill Moorhead each went 11-9.
Teresa Dabrowski and Tim Walker each went 1010 to round out the field this week.
In the overall standings, David Neinast, JC Orozco and Martin are tied for first place with 59 points, while Duran Sr. is in second place with 58 points, and Hayes and Jan Smith are tied for third with 57 points. Donna Neinast is in fourth with 56 points, while Lonnie Neinast, Richard Orozco and Stevy Smith are tied for fifth 55 points.
Brenda Herrell is in sixth with 54 points, while JR Herrell, Micky Orozco and Garza are tied for seventh with 53 points and Stephanie Dabrowski is in eighth with 52 points. Ashley and Alma Castillo are in ninth with 51 points and Rosemond and Magallanes round out the top 10 with 50 points each.
