In the week five edition of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest, we had two contestants tie for the top spot.
Lonnie Neinast and Floyd Trevino each finished 18-2 this week, leaving it up to the tiebreaker to determine a winner. The tie-breaker this week was the combined score between the Cowboys and Seahawks, which was 69 points.
Lonnie Neinast edged out Trevino for the top spot with a guess of 48 points, while Floyd Trevino finished seconded this week with a guess of 45 points. Lyndel Evans took third place out right, finishing 17-3 this week.
In the high school ranks there was one freebie, game number eight was the incorrect match-up for Canyon.
Littlefield’s comeback fell short against Abernathy, 34-20, while Sudan shutout Crosbyton, 33-0, to get back into the win column. Olton fell on the road to Hale Center, 32-14, while Amherst lost a heart-breaker to Wildorado on Homecoming, 23-22.
Crane took down Denver City, 31-21, while Anton blanked Whiteface, 69-0, and Sundown took down Farwell, 24-6. Andrews edged out Estacado, 45-44, while Pampa blew past Levelland, 50-26.
In the college ranks, Notre Dame vs. Wake Forest was postponed due to Covid-19 hitting the Irish.
Auburn defeated Kentucky, 29- 13, while Pittsburgh took down Louisville, 23-20, and Texas won an overtime thriller over Texas Tech, 63-56. Miami routed Florida State, 52-10.
In the NFL Baker Mayfield led the Browns to a victory over the Washington Football Team, 34-20, while the Saints fell to Green Bay, 37-30.
The Bills snuck by the Rams, 35-32, while the Patriots took down the Raiders, 36-20, and the Chiefs won a Monday Night Football game over the Ravens, 34-20.
Those who finished 16-4 this week include, Bobby Cunningham, Devin Garcia, Dewayne Hayes, Floyce Pierce, Ivan Estrada, Jan Smith, JR Herrell, Marcus Garcia, Minnie Trevino, Missy Cunningham, Nancy Smith, Sam Castillo, Stevy Smith and Tommy Cloninger.
15-5 finishers this week were, David Neinast, Donna Neinast, Jay Lee, Johnny Rosemond, Kay Cloninger, Mark Grace and Thomas Blackstone, while Brenda Herrell, Evan Barrera, Junior Garcia, Larry Ashley, Oscar Sanchez, Teresa Dabrowski and Terrill Moorhead each finished 14- 6 this week.
Jame Hood and Ronald Williams each finished 13-7, while Alma Castillo, Ed Dabrowski, Jim Davis Sr., Devin Jones and Robin Elliott each finished 12-8 this week.
In the overall standings, Lonnie Neinast pulls away in the top spot with 87 points, while David Neinast is still in second place with 83 points. JR Herrell and Tommy Cloninger each have 82 points in third place, while Grace sits alone in fourth place with 81 points.
Estrada and Minnie Trevino are tied for fifth place with 80 points, while Floyd Trevino, Pierce and Kay Cloninger are tied for sixth with 79 points. Nancy Smith and Stevy Smith are tied for seventh with 78 points, while Jan Smith and Marcus Garcia are tied for eighth with 77 points.
Lee and Rosemond are tied for ninth with 76 points and Hayes rounds out the top 10 with 75 points.
