Lonnie Neinast, Johhny Rosemond split Week five of Football Contest

Week five of the Lamb County Leader-New’s annual football contest wrapped up on Sunday with the NFL games, and it was a highscoring affair among our contestants where 18-2 wasn’t good enough to place this week.

Lonnie Neinast, Johnny Rosemond and Tommy Cloninger all tied for the top spot this week with a mark of 19-1, forcing us to go to the tie-breaker, which was the combind score of the Falcons and Lions, which was 26 points.

Lonnie Neinast and Rosemond split the first and second place winnings evenly, as they both guessed 45 points, and Cloninger took third with a guess of 48 points.

In the high school ranks, Littlefield blasted Brownfield on the road,49-13, and Sudan rallied past Plains, 47-42. Springlake-Earth 45’ed White Deer, 50-0, while Spur edged out Anton, 58-41, and Roosevelt Took down Sundown, 34-14.

Floydada throttled Hale Center, 46-18, while Post blasted Slaton, 32- 6, and Muleshoe shutout Abernathy, 47-0. Monahans defeated Denver City, 49-6.

In the college ranks, Ohio State won an instant classic over Notre Dame, 17-14, while Penn State shutout Iowa, 31-0, and UNLV took down UTEP, 45-28. Texas State defended their home field against Nevada, taking the win, 3524, and Wyoming edged out Appalachian State, 22-19.

In the NFL, the Browns handeled business against the Titans, 27-3, while the Saints blew a 17-point lead to the Packers, falling, 18-17, and the Chiefs took down the Bears, 41-10. The Cardinals took down the Cowboys, 2816, and the Chargers edged out the Vikings, 28-24.

The rest of the field’s individual scores are as follows: Those who finished 17-3 this week were Martin Duran, Richard Orozco, Ivan Estrada, Dewayne Hayes, Stevy Smith and Teresa Dabrowski, while those who finished 16- 4 were JC Orozco, Jonathan Magallanes, David Neinast, Terrill Moorhead, Alma Castillo, Oscar Sanchez and Larry Ashley.

Donna Neinast, Ronnie Martin, Sam Castillo, JR Herrell and Johnny Williams each finished 155 this week, while Juan Garza, Charlie Smith, Jan Smith and Robin Elliott each finished 14-6 and Maria Pinon and Danny Sanders each finished 13-7. Thomas Blackstone finished 12-8, while Ed Dabrowski, Sandra Williams and James Hood each finished 11-9 and Jimmy Garcia finished 9-11.

In the overall standings, Duran is still clinging to the top spot with 72 points, while Richard Orozco sits in second place with 71 points and Grace, Estrada and JC Orozco are tied for third with 69 points. Cloninger, Brenda Herrell, Magallanes, David Neinast and Donna Neinast are tied for fourth with 68 points, while Lonnie Neinast and Rosemond are tied for fifth with 67 points.

Moorhead and Alma Castillo are tied for sixth with 66 points, while Hayes and Martin are tied for seventh with 65 points and Stevy Smith, Sanchez, Sam Castillo and Garza are tied for eighth with 64 points. Ashley and Pinon are tied for ninth with 63 points and Charlie Smith rounds out the top 10 with 62 points.
