Local EMS 911 Operator addresses Littlefield 4th graders

Thursday, March 4, 2021, Kristen DeLoach, an EMS 911 Operator, spoke to fourth-grade students about being an essential worker, and answered their questions.

The past year has been filled with words such as essential, front line, social distance, state of emergency, and pandemic. What do these words mean to an elementary student, and how do they process what is going on around them?

Students in fourth grade recently discussed and wrote an essay on what an essential worker is and why they were considered essential. In order to bring the point home, the fourth graders had a visit from Kristen DeLoach, a former student of Littlefield Elementary and now an EMS 911 operator.

DeLoach met with the students Thursday, March 4, and discussed what an essential worker is, and what makes her job essential.

She explained the process of a 911 call and what happens once the call is directed to her. During her presentation, Kristen said, “It is extremely important to have phone numbers, your address, and parents’ name posted somewhere in the house.”

She let students know that 911 personnel are trained to ask specific questions that helps the caller identify their surroundings and to give assistance as to what the caller needs to do, until help arrives.

Students were given time to ask questions, to which Ms. DeLoach knowledgably and graciously answered.
