Every year, Littlefield Primary students raise funds for an initiative called ‘Coins for Kids,’ a fundraiser to donate money to kids with cancer.
This year, the school decided to raise money for a former primary cafeteria worker and dear friend, Terri, whose cancer returned for a third time. The new fundraiser was renamed, ‘Terri’s Treasures.’
The money raised assisted with payments for treatments and sought to alleviate how often Terri worked. Students raised approximately $850 during February.
The second grade class raised the most money, bringing in money earned from chores, the tooth fairy, or allowances.
Peggy Robison, an avid organizer of Coins for Kids, said students remained eager to help throughout the fundraising.
One student avidly brought his piggy bank to make several donations, Robison said.
“ I told the kids, ‘ anything helps,’” Robison said. “What matters is what your heart wants to do.”
Retiring this year, Robison said she hopes someone else steps up to continue the Coins for Kids initiative.
