The 78th Littlefield and Dunbar Reunion took place starting on Friday Sept. 2 and ran through Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022.
The reunion started on Friday with a revival at 7 p.m. at Our Place, located at 301 S. Ripley Ave. Saturday started early with registration from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. followed by a parade at 11 a.m. on Martin Luther King Blvd, Griffin Street and Texas Ave.
Jeremy Williams led the parade as Grand Marshall. There was a performance by former Littlefield and Dunbar cheerleaders. Lunch was served at 1 p.m. at Our Place. They served hamburgers and hot dogs with chips and drinks.
They held a memorial service for the veterans they lost. Kia Bolding, Anthony Craddock, Benny Craddock, Travis Danford, Benny Davis, Jimmie Davis, Cerdrick Dunn, Larry Galloway, Brian Greene, DaRhonda Harper, Preysol Hodge, Charles Holmes, Rachel Holmes, Jared Ingram, Tonya Ingram, Willie Mason, Ronald Moore, Alesia Morgan, Brodrick Morgan, Shafton Morgan, Donnie Patterson, Alfred Ross, Joe Ross, Sebastian Ross, Michael Smith, William Taylor, Brandon Tyler, Michael Willard, Robert Willard, Anthony Williams, Louis Williams, Nathaniel Williams, Tyree Williams, Vernon Williams and Vicki King-Williams, all served in the United States Army.
Danny Davis, Quincy Davis, Rodney Hodge, Thaddus Hollis, Brian Morgan, Steve Smith and Ricky Weaver all served in the United States Navy. Allen Blair, Robert Moore Sr., and Bobby Price all served in the United States Air Force. Shea Colbert served in the United States Marine Corps. They also honored Mackie Hodge, Pyersol Hodge and Chuacne Taylor all served in the United States Military.
Joyce Griffinths gave awards to members of the Dunbar reunion. Cynthia Greene accepted the award for starting the scholarship fund on behalf of Gracie Brockington-Young. Marlo Miles received the award for outstanding volunteer and a thank you certificate for allowing the reunion to be held at South Plains Community Action. Yulanda “LeTrecia” McCarty-Harris received a Certificate of Achievement for getting her Doctorate of Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Dominisha Patterson won an award for volunteering and Jeremy Williams received an award for being the first black airplane pilot from Littlefield.
Griffiths also passed out scholarships to two students. This year’s winners were Tajage Chambers and Jovavan Weaver. The 2021 winners of the Dunbar Scholarship Fund were Tyree Jones and Alizea Quinton.
The reunion ended on Sunday with a church service at 1 p.m. at the Peace Deliverance Baptist Church, located at 801 Littlefield Dr. The sermon was given by Rev. Leo McCarty of the New Birth Full Gospel Assembly.
Giffiths said it was good to see friends and visit.
“We got to keep our memories alive and remember where we come from and family and friends is really important so it’s a celebration,” Griffiths said. “We’ve had a hard last three years and it was good to be able to come together without masks and barriers and all that stuff, six feet apart, it was good to just be able to come together and celebrate with each other.”
The next Dunbar and Littlefield Reunion will be held in 2024.
