Seven members of the Lamb Healthcare Auxiliary attended the 2023 TAHV District Meeting on Sept. 22nd at North Texas Health Hospital in Amarillo. The theme this year was Celebrate Our Volunteers. President of TAHV Lynda DeMasco of Kerriville, TX, was present, also President Elect Mary Pfeffer of Dennison, TX, and First Vice President Dave Westerhaus of Houston, TX.
Speakers for the meeting were Paul Matney, talking on Amarillo history and Alanna Hepler on Mental Health. Mr. Matney talked about the settling of Amarillo back in 1887 when 500 Irish Immigrants settled the flatland, and the Denver Co. and Fort Worth railroad crossed in Amarillo. Mrs. Hepler talked about mental health and the services that are available. She said as we age we should keep doing and volunteering is one way to help our mental health. She gave us five steps to help; our mindfullness, be present, be positive, be aware of your feelings and be aware of your surroundings.
Janice Sokora received a pin for 21 years of volunteer service, and was recognized for outstanding volunteer. Retha Williams received a blanket for chemo-theraphy family members, for her sister who is receiving chemo. Gayle Heckard received a token clock for volunteer’s most hours.
Those receiving door prizes from a drawing was Lori Durham, Janice Sokora and Doris Howell.
The meeting ended with a Bar-B-Que meal catered by Tyler’s BBQ.
