Lfd. Parks Committee holds meeting Nov. 14

The Parks Advisory Committee for the City of Littlefield met on November 14th at the City Council Chambers, 525 Phelps Ave. to consider all matters and related incidents to the Parks Advisory Committee.

Chairman Ronnie Rogers called the meeting to order at 12:34 p.m. and the invocation was given by Lance Broadhurst. Ronnie Rogers led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The first order of business was to consider and approve the Minutes for the August 14th Meeting.

Committee Member Michael Rangel made a motion to approve meeting min-utes and it was seconded by Committee Member Broadhurst. The Motion passed 5 ayes and 1 absent.

The next item on the agenda was to consider and approve the Financial Reports.

City Manager Ray Resendez informed the board that some of the payments made by the Park Fund were to buy a pool shade cover, benches, picnic tables and a fitness course.

Committee Member Shawn Pickrell made a motion to approve financial reports and it was seconded by Committee Member Broadhurst. The Motion passed with 5 ayes and 1 absent.

The next order of business was to consider and take action on replacing the basketball court at Crescent Park. City Manager Resendez, informed the committee that two bids were submitted to replace the basketball court at the park. One of the bids was for $ 66,630 and the other bid was for $23,055.

The committee agreed that they would like to get more bids for comparison and to ensure both quality and cost effectiveness.

Committee Member Rangel made motion to replace the court at Crescent Park after more bids are received and it was seconded by Committee Member Broadhurst. The Motion passed with 5 ayes and 1 absent.

Item seven on the agenda was to consider and take action on painting the community building at Laguna Park ( former Girls Scout Building).

City Manager Resendez, informed the committee that a quote was requested to paint the building and came in at $8,200.

The committee discussed the painting of the building and agreed that it would be good.

Committee Member Broadhurst, made a motion to paint the building using park funds and it was seconded by Committee Member Rangel. The Motion passed with 5 ayes and 1 absent.

The next item on the agenda was to consider and take action on building an awning at the soccer field concession stand.

City Manager Resendez, informed the committee that he would like to build an awning at the soccer field concession stand.

After some discussion the committee stated that they would not take any action on this agenda item.

The next order of business was an update on Parks / Pool Projects.

City Manager Resendez, informed the committee that the benches, and the picnic tables have been installed. The City Manager also stated that a pool shade had been ordered and will be installed to see if they are going to work. The City Manager stated that the pool is winterized and a maintenance plan is in place.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 1:04 p.m.
