The Littlefield Independent School District’s Board of Trustees met in Regular Session on Monday, January 12, 2026, in the Board Room of the Jerry Blakely Administration Building.
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m.
No comments were made during the public forum.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved by general consent. Administrative Reports: Littlefield Student Council Advisor Charissa Golden, Littlefield Elementary Prin-cipal Jerry Russell, Athletic Director Brent Green and Assistant Superintendent Amber Hays provided updates on their respective campuses or departments.
In honor of School Board Recognition Month, several organizations from Littlefield High School gifted the school board members with items for a goodie bag.
The student council gifted a Sonic gift card, T.A.F.E. gifted a plant, the Spanish club gifted Topo Chico and candy, the National Honor Society gifted cookies, cheer gifted a Domino’s gift card and the Wildcat Band included a special note.
Additionally, Littlefield High School Student Council members Kevin Nachak, President, and Addeysn Garcia, D.A.S.H. Representative, attended the meeting to pay their gratitude to the board members.
“Each of these gifts represents the appreciation of our students who recognize the time, care and dedication you give to Littlefield ISD,” Nachak said. “We are truly grateful for your leadership, support and your commitment to helping every student succeed. On behalf of LHS, thank you for your continued service, your hard work and your positive impacts on our community.”
Echoing the sentiments of appreciation initiated by the student council members, Littlefield Elementary Principal Jerry Russell thanked the board members for their dedication to the district.
“You all make a lot of decisions for staff, the kids, community, all of the above,” Jerry Russell said. “It’s a lot of hours and lots of long nights, but a lot of people benefit from your decisions.”
Athletic Director Brent Green previewed the preparation for spring sports, including softball, baseball and track. The first softball scrimmage is on January 24, and their first game is on February 10. Baseball’s first scrimmage is on January 31 and their first game is February 13.
Track season kicks off with the first junior high meet on February 24 and on February 25 for the high school.
Basketball season continues, with the girls continuing with a 5-3 record and preparation for spring sports, including softball, baseball and track. “ We got eight more games to go, and if they keep playing like they did in the tournament, they got a good shot,” Green said.
February 2 is the district realignment for football. Coach Green said the team is looking to remain in the same district.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Hays said students are occupied with benchmark testing in preparation for the STAAR exam.
Agenda item five proposed the organization for a General Election of three trustee positions: Precincts 2, 4, and 5, to be held on May 2, 2026.
A motion was made by Will Williams and seconded by Johnny Castillo to order a General Election. The motion carried.
A motion for consideration and board approval of the Notice and Order of the General Election for Early Voting and Election Day was made by Garry Ozbirn and seconded by Will Williams. The motion carried.
A motion to appoint Otoniel Gonzalez to serve as Elections Administrator was made by Shawna Hastings and seconded by Garry Ozbirn. The motion carried.
A motion to appoint Otoniel Gonzalez to serve as Early Voting Clerk was made by Johnny Castillo and seconded by Will Williams. The motion carried.
A motion to consider and approve a joint election on May 2, 2026, was made by Garry Ozbirn and seconded by Shawna Hastings. The motion carried.
A motion to consider and approve a Joint Election Agreement with the City of Littlefield was made by Will Williams and seconded by Garry Ozbirn. The motion carried.
Agenda item six discussed the facilities and maintenance priorities plan. No action necessary.
Chief Operations Officer Bryan Gregory provided updates on facility maintenance, primarily concerning greenery on campus.
New trees were planted on the south end of the football field and new grass was placed near the concession stand.
“ In five or six years, they’re going to look great and in 20 years they’ll be pretty majestic,” Gregory said. “We got the grass just north of the concession stand where all the kids played during Friday nights.”
In addition to the greenery, new speakers for the football field were ordered ahead of track season.
Destiny Chavarria presented the financial and investment report.
Agenda item seven involved the deliberation and possible action to approve the financial and investment review and report. No action necessary.
The board entered a closed session at 7:24 p.m. and returned at 8:21 p.m.
A motion was made by Garry Ozbirn and seconded by Will Williams to approve the Superintendent Appraisal. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Garry Ozbirn and seconded by Will Williams to approve the Superintendent’s 3-Year Contract from July 1, 202,6 through June 30, 2029. The motion carried.
Agenda item 10 involved Superintendent Mitch McNeese informing the board of training opportunities.
With no further business to discuss, Board President Reese Rogers adjourned the meeting at 8:22 p.m.
