On Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 9:25 p.m. there was a two vehicle collision on US 385 and County Road 242 that left one dead and two injured.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup had been traveling west on County Road 242 and stopped at the intersection with US 385. A 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup was traveling southbound on US 385 and was entering the intersection with CR 242. The Dodge Ram proceeded into the intersection, which caused the Chevy Colorado to collide with the passenger side rear of Dodge Ram.
The driver of the Chevy Colorado, Zack Rankin, 19, of Lamar, Colorado was transported to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries sustained during the crash.
The passenger of the Chevy Colorado, Hailey Spangler, 20, of Springlake, Texas, was transported to University Medical Center – Lubbock with serious injuries, but in stable condition.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, Randy Lopez, 21, of Littlefield, Texas, was transported to Lamb Healthcare Center with minor injuries.
