Lamb County has gone six and a half months without recording an inch of rainfall and is experiencing drought.
The West Texas Mesonet site at Amherst recorded 0.02 of an inch in February, 0.25 of an inch in January, 0.08 of an inch in December nothing in November and 0.87 of an inch in October. Last September, 0.94 of an inch was recorded at the Amherst Mesonet site.
The rainfall total for 2021 at the Amherst site was 14.01 inches with 4.84 inches recorded in May, 2.18 recorded in June, 2.43 recorded in July and 1.66 recorded in August.
Similar amounts were recorded at the Earth Mesonet site where 15.98 inches were recorded last year. So far this year, The Earth site had recorded just 0.02 in February and 0.10 in January.
The Olton area has slightly better rainfall measurements with 0.01 recorded in February, 0.22 in January, 0.04 in December, nothing in November, 0.92 in October and 2.76 inches in September. Last year that site recorded 19.34 inches of rainfall.
Last year’s rainfall was a significant increase from the 7.50 recorded at Amherst, the 7.i82 recorded at Earth and the 9.17 inches recorded at Olton during 2020.
