Lamb County Local Workgroup held a meeting on February 1st.
Roy Thompson addressed the meeting attendees and introduced special guest’s that were present. Robert Unterkircher NRCS Plainview Team Resource Leader, Jason Eckert Zone 1 NRCS Program specialist, SWCD board members, SWCD district clerk Arcie Rodriquez and Brenda May Littlefield NRCS DC.
Brenda explained the LWG meeting with a power point presentation explaining what the LWG meeting is for and local concerns.
Concerns – Little water, old leaking irrigation pipeline, blowing fields, etc.
Do conservation practices work? Pictures showing different practice implementation and fields needing help.
Rangeland practice example pictures showed different types of pasture sites, grass, wildlife, and cattle types.
Water application slide was shown to discuss water savings and irrigation methods.
Last year’s NRCS resource concern priorities were discussed. Irrigated and dry cropland had irrigation water savings emphasis.
Rangeland was inadequate water quality and plant pressure. Gabby Castaneda read the list of practices addressed through programs last year.
Kyla Tolbert discussed terrace projects and soil erosion mitigation efforts.
Opportunities and programs through NRCS were discussed.
NRCS assistance such as through EQIP, EQIP-CIC, CSP, IRA, and technical assistance Partner assistance was also discussed.
Questions were asked and a survey was provided to the attendees to fill out to determine their priorities for this next program year. Results were the following: Cropland – Irrigation Ground water levels/irrigation efficiency, Soil Health and converting cropland to grass.
Rangeland – Brush management and Livestock water.
Meeting concluded after survey’s were picked up.
